the idle air control valve should be checked for operation both mechanically and electrically, it could be defective. cost depends on which trans you have auto around $230.00 for the part, manual around $150.00 for the part. at those prices I would be darn sure it has a problem before replacement, or find one from a salvage yard in better shape.

SOURCE: 1989 honda prelude. engine surges. from normal to 2100 rpms

There is a warm up valve on the throttle body(should have 2 small coolant hoses). remove the valve and have someone start the car while you block the port to the valve on the intake. If that clears up the problem you can cut a piece of cardboard to mount in between the valve and intake.should straighten it out.

po505 idle air control if this is the code all hondas do it eventully, small problem easy fix u have 2 choices either remove the idle air control motor and clean the inside of it u will find it's black and the spring inside is stuck clean it with carb cleaner or gum cutter any parts store will have this it's a dirty job it will work for awhile but to replace it is recommended its not expensive for a new one which u can get at any autoparts store autozone, advanced, napa etc. there is only 2 bolts in most cases maybe 3 i doubt it though if u go online t google and type in th eyear make and model and engine size in ur case it's a 3.0 v6 and look for idle air control locations u'll find it to do this job a shop will charge u anywhere from 100.00 for diag to retrive the code plus the part and the labor so about 250.00-375.00 it will only take u honestly maybe 15 minutes to perform only tools needed are a 10 millimeter wrench there is only 1 connector to disconnect and ur done if u do this u will still have the check engine light because u have not cleared it from the computer to do this just disconnect the negative battery terminal (the black one or has a neg sign - don't disconnect the positive side +)for 5 minutes then reconnect and the computer will have reset no more light. good luck it really is that easy

SOURCE: 1991 Honda Civic 1500 idles irregularly, with check engine light.

I think I would suspect the fuel injectors, especially since that is the code you are getting. Fuel injectors clog up, get dirty, stop working the way they should. They can be cleaned (you can remove them and send them to a company that cleans them and makes them like new, or, they can be cleaned in the car by some garages, or, you can get a can of Sea Foam spray and spray it into your throttle housing several times to try to do some cleaning that way, or, you can dump a can of Sea Foam (non-spray) into your gas tank and run it with the fuel through your injectors). You should probably check when you first start the car to see if you are getting any leakage from one or another injector (one or another may look moist or wet if the seals are leaking). You can also do the long screwdriver test (hold the bit of the screwdriver against each injector in turn and listen with your ear against the other end to see if each is clicking regularly). I would try the Sea Foam first.
I hope this is helpful in getting you started on a fix.

SOURCE: 1996 Honda Accord Rough Idle Even After tune up

Perform a valve clearance inspection and adjust if necessary. Tight or sticking valves will cause a misfire or rough running concern. Note: Perform valve adjustment when the engine is stone cold. 4cyl: INT 0.26mm EXH: 0.30mm (V6 engine are hydraulic and no adjust necessary.) Also check for a sticking or stuck open EGR valve. For diagnostic purposes only: Remove the EGR valve. Place a business card over the EGR passage and bolt the EGR valve back on. This plugs the EGR ports and if the misfire goes away the EGR valve is partially stuck open and is defective.
Check for low fuel pressure. Check for low compression. Check cam timing. Check for a weak ignition coil. Also don't over look the possibility of worn or broken engine mounts which cause excessive engine movement and engine vibration. -hope this helps

Check engine light on and was reading a p0505 code drove to the store and engine like started blinking got home hooked the code reader and now have another code of p0309 and p1399

Code 505 is a problem with the idle air control valve.
Code 309 is noting a cylinder 9 missfire on engines with 10 cylinders which would not include yours. That may be a fluke or not the right number.
Code p1399 is brand specific and for Honda it usually means random miss.
The code 505 could be the idle control valve or a vac leak. The computer can not control idle speed by using the valve.
The miss codes mean the cylinders are not producing power when they should be. Which may or may not be ignition. It could also be fuel or mechanical problems.
If you have not replaced the plugs and done the usual maintenance stuff in the past year or two, I would start with the basics.
Be sure and look at the inside of the dist cap and rotor.

When engine gets hot, idle is up and down with the engine light on. OBD code gives a P0505 code.

per this address "http://www.obd-codes.com/trouble_codes/" p0505 is a "IAC (Idle Air Control) System Malfunction" it gives some good suggestions to look at to find a solution for your problem.

1999 dodge stratus car runs for awhile then dies check engine light comes on code P0505

P0505: Idle Air Control System

There is a small motor that controls the amount of air the engine gets when you aren't using the throttle. The computer uses this small motor to control your idle. It sounds like it needs to be replaced. You can try cleaning it first with some throttle body & air intake cleaner.
