As I drive down the highway my brakes tighten and get hot. If I stop and depress the brake pedal hard it releases but will gradually tighen again.

Have you checked the hardware on the disc brakes all the way around, as well as checking the rear pads? Wore out hardware could cause you to require more pressure to get the pads to move, as well as low brakes on the rear. Your braking system sends more pressure to the front of the vehicle because it requires more pressure up there. Less pressure on the rear can cause this to happen. I'm willing to bet the problem from the pedal is coming from the rear brakes somewhere and not the front. The last possibility that I can think if is a problem in the ABS solonoids, they might not be opening up all the way causing you to require more pressure.

When you change the master cylinder it is best to gravity bleed first, then proceed to the pedal technique.
Gravity bleeding is when you just open the valve and let gravity pull the fluid down.
Keep in mind you must "prime" the master cylinder first before installing it, did you do that?
Priming the master cylinder is where you put it in a vise gently, you then take apaptors and screw into the outlets, then take tubes from the adaptors back into the resoirvor. You fill the resorvoir up with fluid and take a 3/8 extension for a socket and push the piston in and out slowly until there are no more air bubbles.
After this procedure you gravity bleed the brakes, then go on to the pedal technique.

Hi Tora, Go to the back brakes. This is where the prob could be. But with you bleeding the brakes, the peddle has went beyond its normal travel causing the rubbers in the master cylinder to get messed up. Happens too often! Replace the master cylinder 'after' you had a good look at the back! Frankster016

I WOULD NOT KEEP DRIVING IT.WHEN ABS LIGHTS AND BRAKE LIGHTS COME ON.YOU HAVE BRAKE FAILURE. TOW IT TO DEALERSHIP HAVE IT SERVICE.AND CHECK THE ABS BRAKES SYSTEM .BECAUSE ABS BRAKE SYSTEM IS NOT A HOME FIX.BECAUSE THE ABS HYDRAULIC MODULATOR UNIT HAS LOWER FROM HOME POSITION .IN ORDER TO MOVE THE MASTER CYLINDER FROM UNIT.YOU NEED A TECH 2 SCANNER TO DO THE JOB.TO GET ABS BRAKES TO BLEED RIGHT BEST TO GET THEM PRESSURE BLEED INSTEAD OF MANUAL BLEEDING GET LESS AIR IN SYSTEM.THAT WHY SEE DEALER SHIP HAS THE THINGS TO DO THE JOB.
