Hesiates on starting & missing, the gear shift for drive there is a light that goes on while driving will not go off without turning off the engine. I ran the codes on it sometime ago and it said

Hesitates on starting after driving it for 20 mins. Then I try to start it and it acts like it isn't getting any gas. Plus it is missing going down the road after I had the wires & plug changed, oil changed, new gas filter. Could it be my fluid injectors? Plus it sometimes it jerks going into gear.

Check your fuel pressure. Sometimes your fuel pump will give to much or to little fuel to the engine. Changing fuel pressure regulator will solve the problem. What is your RPM needle doing is it pulsating or going up or down...Please let me know so we can solve the problem.

SOURCE: surging while driving

This is a notorious problem with the Windstars. There are oodles of ground straps in them. Make sure they are all clean and tight. ESPECIALLY THE STARTER GROUND STRAP. If it's loose, the car may just die when you turn up into a driveway or parking lot or just go over a bump. If you notice the "Check Engine" light comes on momentarily, at the time of the surge or the engine kills completely, it's DEFINITELY the starter ground strap! My engine used to kill at odd times -- even when on the freeway going at 75!-- Then we'd go over another bump and SURGE_O_RAMA, the engine's running again or I'd restart it and it would be fine for a while. What's happening is the loose ground strap loses it's connection when you go over a bump in the road. The next bump jogs it back into the connected mode, albeit tenuous at best. All of the computer techs couldn't find the problem. It took a 70-year old seat-of-the-pants mechanic to make the SIMPLE fix. It took so long to find the common-sense mechanic, however, that the down-shot of all of the surging tanked my tranny, which I had to have rebuilt! AND then, after I drove away from the 5-star AAA BBB "transmissing" shop, I found that THEY HAD NOT TIGHTENED ALL OF THE GROUND STRAPS! I took it back. They had no knowledge of ALL 9(?) ground straps and had to take it to THEIR mechanic who tightened them ALL down! It's been 5 years since then and I haven't had another problem with it. RULE OF THUMB: EVERY TIME YOU HAVE THE VAN SERVICED have them tighten-down ALL of the ground straps! If your mechanic doesn't know what you are talking about, go find a new mechanic. Generally, the AAA "Top Shops" are your best bet. They fix things right the FIRST time. I still haven't found a manual that has all of the ground straps listed, by the way.

if this is a 1980 F150, emissionwiz is correct in saying it has a carburetor, if your engine runs on ether, you do not have fuel supply to the engine. Check fuel delivery at the front of carburetor, should be a line screwed into the carb, may be connected by a rubber hose, remove this line and crank engine, look to see fuel is gushing out of the line, if no fuel the pump is bad, check fuel lines back to pump for leaks, replace leaking lines if necessary. If you get fuel then your float inside the carb is stuck, and the carb will need some attention, hope this helps, let me know

did you scan the PCM first to see if there are DTC errors for the trans. seem not and that is first. after.
1: checking levels in box.
2: checking fuses.

Hi Jeff,
This is an old warning issue or procedure, I had the same problem a few years ago with my Ford Taurus 1995, if rear stop lights not work, you wont be able to moved the shift out of Parking (P); this is to avoid driving without rear stop lights. If no lights, normally a fuse is blow out or all bulb lights are gone, please check.
There is an alternate procedure to be able to drive your car, but, avoid driving without Stop lights. Turn the ignition key to the point before starting the engine, this release the lock for the driving wheel and transmission shift, press the brake, put the shift in Neutral (N) and start the engine. Im not sure if your Ford Edge has the no key starting button or fob, there is a procedure to release the locks and be able to drive, should be in your drivers manual, but, again; the intention is to avoid moving the car without Stop Lights. where is gear handle try get in side and spray on cable with WD40.turn on do not start try to move slowly by hand.

Gear shift has locked up

sounds like brake shift interlock solenoid is bad. try doing this emergency bypass. Turn key to off position, no lights on cluster. step on brake, pull shifter out of park to neutral. start car & drive away without putting it in park. see owner manul for better description.
