2002 Pontiac Montana Van. Battery is good. Van randomly does not start. Engine turns over just doesn't start. Then it will start fine for 1 week or so, then randomly not start. All power to lights, electronics, gauges all work. My ABS light has been on. I was told it was likely a sensor. Could this sensor be the cause of it randomly not starting?

well first off, check the glove box light blub, make sure it shuts off when you close the door, check it by pressing the switch with your finger to make sure it shuts off, also check under the hood for the light there if there is one, pull the bulb, and the same thing for any bulb in the trunk, then check again after a day to see if the battery dies, if it is dying while the vehicle is not running then it is the battery, if it is dying after it is running then it is the alt. you can check that also tho with a multimeter set to the DC volts setting, place the black end <the ground to any grounded area> and the red end <the hot lead to the back of the alt. > it should be reading higher then 12 volts, normally should be a higher reading then 12 volts... if you are getting a lower reading or just 12 volts then the alt. is bad and needs to be replaced...hope this helps you out...

by the sounds of it the altanator is putting out enough voltage to keep the car running I my self don't think that it's the alt but the battery, if you don't know the age than it's not a bad idea to replace the battery. if the problem is still there than I would test the alt, should be putting out 14.6 volt at all times. but replace the battery first.
Testimonial: "Replaced the battery and seems to be working great now ! Thanks !"

Start with fuel system. Listen for fuel pump humm at fuel tank No humm check wiring to pump for power. Then check for spark at plugs and wires. Remove wire from coil and hold near engine and see arch when you crank. No arch. Replace ignition Modular inside distributor cap or cap or rotor
