You should check the wiring harness and connectors/ grounding. Common problem for the older sportages. Many different things can be bad, loose pins/ low tension in female pins inside contacts, corrosion, bad grounding.

SOURCE: 2005 KIA Sportage Engine Warning Light and Misfire Problem

Engine check light comes on - defect of a range of Sportages - manufacturer should repair it. Check the recalls on Kia Sportage. My vehicle had to get an entirely new engine. This is after the vehicle refused eventually to start.

SOURCE: 2000 kia sportage trouble code po171 once in

I have 2005 Kia Sportage with a check engine light. No other symptoms. I was told by Kia and Local mechanic that it is the fuel injectors. Error Code states that Fuel injectors are running lean. Put Master airflow- no change. Ran engine test with propane to run rich and trim never changed from 15. Car runs great. Kia dealer said that this is because we use Ethel in gas that it effects the alumium fuel rail delivery to the injectors and that it is necessary to change all of them .Kia Dealer wants $1,000.00 deposit to place order 6 fuel injectors from Kia. (Has anyone heard of that?)Also put fuel injector cleaner in tank.Does anyone have any suggestions before I spend over $1,000.00 to replace all 6 injectors or possible idea of what could be wrong?

2001 kia sportage is over heating but has no leaks. the radiator has been flushed but is very rusty inside. The water is rusty inside the radiator. We have checked the resevoir, it is fine. the water...

Rusty is from running a bad or no mix of coolant. (PH level is off) You may have a water pump that has corroded impellers, and can't move the coolant as well any more. I would start by making sure to flush the engine block again, and make sure you flush water through every possible hose, and where you can get at it.

Changed timing belt on 2001 kia sportage but still runs rough

I would check the connectors on the coil packs, spark plugs and wires and replace them if they at all seem worn or tired. My 2000 sportage ran rough so I replaced the fuel filter, coil packs, spark plugs and wires, cleaned out the IAC valve, TPS, throttle body and intake tube, tightened the screws on the fuel pump access door under the right rear seat and cleaned the ground wire and the contact surface and I added 1 ground wire from the block to the firewall and 1 from the valve cover to the firewall. Your timing is more than likely right where it needs to be but the ignition may be slightly missing from a bad coil pack, dirty or fouled plugs or a bad plug wire.

What milage should you change the timing belt kia sportage

It's customary to change timing belt and water pump anywhere between 80K-120K miles.  I typically try to get them done on my vehicles before I reach 100K unless I'm having trouble before that.  Hope this helps.  Thanks for an honest rating.

Oil pressure light

Oils in long over due service forms **** which can't be circulated properly under normal oil pump pressure causing Crank shaft or cam shaft bearing recieve the lubricant quite late. The said bearings could be damaged.

For the light, the oil pressure switch could have accummulated some **** which is making it malfunction.
