Reverse lights/Rear internal brake light not working

Ive replaced all bulbs and my rear window brake light isn't working. When I reverse, the lights will not come on. Checked the wiring and I don't see any issues.

There is a reverse switch on top of the trans where the shift cable is attached. is there power to and through that switch while in reverse? the cyclops light needs the power interruption traced back from the socket to the switch on the brake pedal to find out where you have lost power or possibly taped into brake power at another brake light bulb socket

I just purchased a 1996 cavalier. It didn't have an owners manual and i need to know what the abrieviations on the fuse box stand for. I'm trying to find the fuse for the brake lights and rear turn...

Hi, the likely problem is the turn signal switch. The signals and brake lights use different fuses. You can get an owners manual here:
http://www.extendedgmwarranty.com/owners-manual/chevrolet/1996-Chevrolet-Cavalier.pdf

A new switch is about $40, and it isn't too hard to replace. Make sure you get one that has the same controls as yours does. To replace the switch, remove the covers from the steering column, disconnect the switch and unscrew it from the column.

Please let me know if you have questions, and thanks for using FixYa.

Reverse lights flash on/off when car is put into reverse; Mercedes 98 E320. Also the rear center brake light does not work at all. All of the bulbs have been checked/replaced so they are not the issue.

REVERSE LIGHT PROBLEM COULD BE LOOSE WIRES OR FAULTY TRANSMISSION RANGE SENSOR.THE REAR CENTER BRAKE LIGHT COULD HAVE FAULTY BULB SOCKET OR GROUND WIRE AND THE CONTROL MODULE THAT CONTROLS IT CIRCUIT.

HOW MANY BULBS ARE IN THE REAR LIGHTS (SUCH AS FOR PARKING, REVERSE, BRAKE). IF WARNING LIGHT ON PANEL IS ONE, WOULD I SEE A BURNT OUT BULB?

You may or may not see a burnt out bulb. The dash light can also mean there's a current issue (ie none of the bulbs are lighting)

2 reverse bulbs
2 license plate bulbs
2 turn signal bulbs
2 rear sidemarker bulbs (side of your tail light assembly)
2 running light bulbs which are the same as your stop light bulbs in the tail light assembly
1 to 6 high mount stop light bulbs (if they're in the window and varies on models)
1 strip of LED brake lights if you have a spoiler
