Sounds like a clogged air or fuel filter but not sure without more information. could also be a dying fuel pump. located in the gas tank.

unfortunatly it sounds like you are having issues with the torque converter. it sounds like it is locking up all the time now. this requires the transmission to be taken out to change it i do not know what your experience is so not sure if you have the tools or knowledge to do it yourself.

Have you checked for injection pulse or compression. Will it start if you spray carb cleaner in the intake?

SOURCE: buick regal 92 3.8L Horrible fuel mileage

Sounds like you might have an oxygen sensor problem. Your catalytic converter(s) maybe defective or dirty. That in turn can dirty up the oxygen sensor. A defective oxygen sensor will send faulty info to the computer, interpreting the fumes as cold (even when the engine warms up). That causes the computer to adjust the fuel mixture to very rich, giving you poor gas mileage and the fuel smell. Hope it helps.

unplug the cam sensor behind the water pump pulley; see if it starts; if it does, shut off engine; replace both cam and crank sensors because crank sensors go out in these engines

2006 buick rendevou starts then dies

If the car will not idle (starts and dies) but will run if you keep your foot on the gas, you have a vacumn leak. It could be a broken plastic fitting on the intake or a crack in the intake.
If you can get the car running, spray carburetor cleaner around the components on the engine and if the engine speeds up you have found the problem part.

You need to get the trouble codes out of the computer first. Take it to your local autoparts store and they can hook up a scan tool and retreive codes this give you a general area start looking for the problem.

Possible areas of concern are:
  • faulty MAF (Mass Air Flo) sensor
  • bad EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculator
  • bad TPS
It's most likely a combination of the 3 but the main cause would normally be the TPS (Throttle Positioning Sensor) which regulates engine idle speeds under different conditions.

Jeep 2002 grand cherokee dies unless i keep foot on the gas...

The idle relearn needs reset. Keep your foot on the gas at about 900 rpm. Make it idle for about 5-6 minutes. Slowly ease up on the gas until it will idle on it's own, it might take a while. After you get it to idle, it might be idling real low, but on its own, Let it sit and idle until for 20 minutes. After that it should be back to normal. You will have to do this every time you have the battery unhooked for a while.
