Have you checked to see if the thermostat is functioning correctly and is not jammed shut. That would cause overheating.

How to change water pump in 1987 chevy nova

1. Remove mounting bolts and remove upper timing cover and gasket. Drain coolant into clean bucket.
2. Loosen the 4 water pump pulley mounting bolts. Loosen alternator adjusting and mounting bolts and remove the belt.
3. Remove the water pump pulley bolts and the pulley.
4. Remove the water pump inlet mounting bolt from the side of the block and then remove the 2 nuts attaching the pipe to the water pump. Remove the pipe.
5. Remove the mounting bracket bolt and then remove the dipstick tube. Plug the hole with a rag. Remove the right hand under cover and the power steering adjusting bracket ( if it has power steering).
6.Remove the 3 bolts and remove the water pump. Keep coolant OFF the timing belt (plenty of rags to soak it up)., Remove the O ring from the block.
7. To install a new pump, start by replacing the O ring in the block. Then the reverse of these steps.
8. Water pump mounting bolts are torqued to 11 ft.lbs only. Also replace the O ring on the dipstick tube and coat it with oil before reinstalling.
9. Refill the cooling system and run the engine up to operating temperature, with the heater running. This will force the air out of the system. Once the air is out top up the rad and replace the rad cap.

Themometer warning light has come on whatshould i do? Just add Water?

that would be the place to start, remove the readiator cap and fill the readiator then the over flow bottle, make sure the engine is cool before removing the cap, then fill the readiator and then start the engine with the cap off and top the radiator off again it would be a good idea to let the engine run untill the thermostat opens to make sure the radiator is full you will know when the thermostat opens when the top radiator hose get hot......good luck

Fiat Car Overheating

Ok, Take the overflow hose out of the overflow tank and opput the end in a glass or jar of water. Start the motor and watch gfor bubbles coming out of the hose in the water.. Little tiny smokey white bubbles mean you have a combustion leak into your cooling system. Possible head gasket seapage.good luck
