Knocking on petrol
its pinking which means the timing is too far advanced ,try 98 octane petrol .what year is vehicle as older engines were designed to run on higher octane petrol.like a MK2 jag or austin westminster need 101 octane.whats happening is the petrol has a lower anti knock additive than higher octane ,although the petrol is the same flame rate of burn its the amount of anti knock additive which gives it its octane value.just check timing and if a distributor is fitted ****** it a bit i would suggest 8 btdc but if still pinks on low grade then 6btdc
