Yesterday, my passat v6 automatic was stuck in 1st gear. My dashboard read, 20 mph at 30 rpms. So far today, it's running fine. Is signs of a new transmission?

If your vehicle revs to 3000 rpms and it won't go more than 20 mph, it sounds like your transmission isn't shifting past 1st gear. I'd check transmission fluid level and if that's OK, take it in to get the tranny checked
if when you get to 30 miles per hour the rpms are excessively high then the 3rd gear on you're transmission is out. you can try changing the transmission filter and fluid but most likely will not help and you will have to replace the transmission or have it rebuilt anyways. I'm assuming its an automatic transmit ion and therefore if high rpms at 30 miles per hour its sadly the transmission
not likely, the speed sensor sends the info to the pcm and will affect gear change, though its highly unlikely that the speed sensor can make the pcm "read" first or second gear, speed sensor sends info to the pcm to help it decide when to shift gears/apply abs/ etc
THERE IS A TEMPERATURE SENSOR ON MOTOR WHICH CAUSES THIS PROBLEM... USUALLY IT SHOWS A NEGATIVE TEMP READING WHICH CONFUSES THE COMPUTER CAUSING IT TO REV UP....HAVE THE ENGINE DIAGNOSED ON A SCANNER....GOOD LUCK...
sounds as if it has an internal problem with one of the clutch packs or a valve in the valve body not switching correctly and will need some internal work done
