I have a 05 grand prix gt. my dash lights go out plus all warnings are showing up on screen. Turn signals don't work as well as head lights when this happens. Then it goes back to normal and then...

have you checked the DIC fuse and dash fuse to make sure they are tight. The DIC (instrument cluster) will light anytime it senses an issue with the data feed to it. You might just have a loose dash cluster connector or a loose DIC harness. Try jiggling some of the harnesses under the dash when the car is running normally and see if you can get the DIC to do the same symptoms.

I have no brake lights in my '97 dodge caravan le but i have taillights

Have yoiu changed/checled the lightbulbs? (In other words,do your turn signal lights work? If the front turn signal lights work, but the rear don't, then turn on your four (4) way flashers. If the rear lights still don't work, then all the bulbs are bad. It is rare for all the bulbs to be burnt out at the same time, but it does happen.

If the turn signal/four way flasher lights work, then you probably have a bad brake light switch. However, first check your owner's manual to make certain there is not a separate fuse for these lights. If there is, then swap the fuse for the brake lights for another fuse (or relay) of the same size/amperage. (Facing the hood, the power relay box is located on the right side (usually) under the hood.)

The fuse box is located under the dash, on the driver's side of the car. Usually there is a plastic cover that has to be removed to access the underside of the dash, and then there is a plastic cover that has to be removed to access the fuse box. If you don't have an owner's manual, nprmally the fuses and power relays are normally marked on the plastic covers your remove ot access the fuses and power relays.

If the fuses/relays are good, then you have a bad brake light switch. This is located on a bracket just above the brake pedal. When you push the pedal down, the switch makes contact. Disconnect the plug to the switch, and jump across the plug contacts (not the switch) with a small piece of wire, or if a piece of insulated wire is unavailable, you can use a paperclip, you won't get schocked, just make certain that the paperclip does not come in contact with a ground while you have it plugged in to the plug for the brake light switch.

If the lights stil dont work, check for power to the plug for the brake light switch. If you have power to the plug, the turn signals and four-way flashers work, then my guess would be that you have a broken power wire (probably iside the steering column, or a bad turn signal switch. If the brake lights work whe nyou jump out the brake light switch, then the brake light switch is defective.

The shifter is locked and engine turns on but can not shift from park

1st, have someone step on brake pedal while you check to see if your brake lights are working, if yes proceed to step 2, if not check your brake light fuse(Left side of dash fuse#20- 10amp)IF fuse is good replace brake light switch on brake pedal. 2nd Step (brake lights ok) Turn key on engine off, press and release brake pedal several times slowly, listen for a click and and pulse on shifter handle. IF yes you have a shifter malfunction replace shifter assembly. IF no, inspect shift interlock solenoid and or relace solenoid and cable. You should see a small access cover about the size of a peanut around base faceplate of shifter assembly use small screwdriver and remove cover, use screw driver to press button underneath plate and release shifter into reverse and drive gears(this is manual overide) if you need to move vehicle in the meantime.

'97 Malibu, dash lights don't work

Check your fuses. The dash lights are on a different fuse. Also check dimmer switch. If its not one, then it is the other. Try working dimmer switch quickly back and forth( with the lights on when it's dark so you can see if they come on).

2001 nissan sentra gxe dashboard lights not working

Nissans like most all cars and light trucks made for sale in north America the taillights dont work either if the dash lights are out. Tailights work go to next step, or fix tailights (parking lights) The fuse blown for the parking lights can happen at the radio and is common problem with aftermarket radios hooked up wrong. If The car has an after market radio and the fuse for dash or tail is blown I check the radio first unplug and look for loose bare or untaped wires see if a new fuse holds with the radio hang and then unplugged. Always use the right fuse as the headlight switch can't take a bigger load and you may not find the problem till you have a fire. The tailights are next if their out I just unplug the wire from the light fixtures and try a new fuse if the dash works now with it on plug the tailights in one at a time and watch operation If the bright light (brake bulb comes on the bulb is in backwards ( see it all the time ) or doesnt light at all or dash goes back out fuse blows again You found your bad light and the bulb the socket are suspect. with it apart You can see the problem. Lets say the tailights work just right. and the dash lights still don't work. Theres a dimmer for the dash lights that can fail. its' a thumb knob deal that pops right out of the dash with a light pry and will hang by its wire ( 3 ) with the lights on two wires will be on if only two wires both will be hot cold with the lights off. if it has aground wire its because it lights up too. the grong wire is black. Connect the other two wires together or if two wires connect them and the dash lights up you have a bad switch. You can plug in a bebt paper clip tape over and reinstall or order up a new one from Nissan as the parts stores mostly don't have these. Call with your VIN and the parts guys are more friendly. Still no good. The headlight switch can fail but you'll say the tails don't work and the fuses are good and they were good when you checked them. With the covers removed from the steering colum the turn signal head light switch can be removed. Most of the time they fail after big fuses were added or lots of miles and tailight or radio problems. Most always created by a wrongly directed repair. Find the wire thats the same color as the wire you saw on the back of the dimmer switch for the panel and with a test light see if it comes on ( switch removed but hanging by the wire and the wire plugged in ) With the switch turned off two or three wires will be hot turn the parking lights on only and one more will come hot ( check with test light ) turn the lights on bright another wre comes hot switch to dim another wire comes hot and the one that was hot on bright goes dead the other two wires are the turn signals they need to work before your done as long as the lights work OK don't go diging into sonething thats not broke. Key off two wire hot one more with the key on (turn signal) if not good here your back to checking fuses The front lights can also short out as the car may have hit something. all the marker lights ( edge of the headlight ) Sides of the front and rear fenders and all the lights in both tailights are suspect. Last the wires that go to the lights are damaged somewhere. Theres lots of bulbs in the dash, glove box, ash tray, Speedometer, heater control and console gearshift. The likely hood of all being blown is unlikely. Power put on the panel dimmer switch will find out.

Dash and shifter lights in 1996 jeep cherokee wont light

Hello and welcome to FixYa . Locate the dial that controls the brightness of the dashboardlights. If the control is not immediately evident. Make sure the brightness control is turned on. If it is and the lights aren't working, the problem may be a bad fuse. Check the fuse that controls the dashboard lights Replace the fuse if necessary. If just one part of the instrument panel is not lighting up, then you have either a burned-out bulb or a wiring problem.

Sometimes this fuses isnt marked on your cover so you might have to look in the maual to find the right fuse . some will be under the hood some will be under the dash .

Good luck to you all on finding this little fuse hope you find it before the cops pulls out behind you when its dark :)
