My brake/tail lights arent functioning properly. its acting like the bulb is backwards. the large filament(brake light, blinker) stays on when the lights are on rather than the small filament(running

The tail light cover was broken and took on water resulting in the bulb blowing. this problem surfaced after replacing the bulb.

looking at your schematics and , you say tail lights don't work , you didn't mention if front parking lights and license plate lights are working , they all come from the same source , a black /yellow wire , a good clue if front work and rear don't , please advise .if fronts work then you have a open circuit somewhere between junction S118 (near breakout for left headlamp) and rear sockets.

SOURCE: 99 Dodge Ram 1500 4x4 / nothing but parking lights,no flashers or brake lights......

I found the problem on my Dodge Ram van.. The button for the hazard lights was bad.. I tuned on the hazard lights and only had one side, so i jiggled it and the other side came on. Then I pushed in the hazard button to turn them off and proceeded to check the brake lights, the still did not work so I again jiggled the hazard button and whaaalaaa the brake lights would flicker on and off.. I have a piece of cardboard pushing the button to the side to hold pressure on it keeping my brake light connection until I can get me a new hazzard switch.. Hope this helps..

SOURCE: Right brake light out; tail light works fine

most rear tail lights and turn/stop lights are the same dual filiment bulb. it is possible for your tail light to work and your brake light not to and still have a bad bulb. I would check the bulb first, your brake light works on the left yes? this would mean that the fuse is fine

check the fuse with a test light on both sides of the fuse,
next would be the headlight switch.

Sonata tail light socket melted. attempting to replace with after market socket. red, green and black coming form vehicle.

If you have a test light or voltmeter, turn park lights on and find the one wire on vehicle that is hot-it will almost surely be red or green, as the black is surely the ground wire. Now on the new socket, you need to know this: If those bulbs are two filament bulbs (one filament for park lights, and the other filament for brake or turn or both) the brake light and the turn light will be brighter than the park lights. You can tell the difference in brightness, and the brake lights are always brighter than the tail (or park) lights.
How many bulbs are on this socket? Do you have 2-filamet bulbs or just one filament bulbs? Maybe you can figure it out by looking at the other side, see how or which lights are for tails and which for brakes.

Seems like the brake/tail light bulbs are backwards. the large filament(brake/ blinker) is staying on when the lights are on rather than the small filament(running lights).

Well you will have to check for a short or melted plug for the lights otherwise you might have to cut the 3 wires to the lights and replace the sockets to the bulbs because the corrosion or melted plug internally is bad

My brake lights and rear blinkers are not working, I checked light bulbs (tail lights work) and fuses. what next

typically with gm the brake light and turn signals work on the same filament, so just because the tail lights come on does not mean that the bulb is not burned out. try simply replacing the bulbs.

When i push the brakes the dash lights up and when i put the right or left blinkers the dash lights ups. what do i do?

Hi, is it possible you have the wrong lamps in the brake light sockets? It seems like the brake/turn lamps are shorting across to the tail lamps, which will the power the dash lights. The stop/turn lamps are supposed to be dual filament bulbs. If you put a single filament bulb in the socket, it may short across the stop and tail circuits.

2004 Chevy Trailblazer Brake Light

I would start by trying another bulb. Even though the brake and tail light share the same bulb they actually are powering different filaments inside of the bulb so you can have a tail light filament that is working fine and illuminating properly but have a burned out brake light element that won't work at all...all inside the same bulb. Not uncommon at all to see this problem and these bulbs are pretty inexpensive.

Head lights work, brake lights work, blinkers work, tail lights dont, replaced all fuses and bulbs

did you change any relays  swap some relays to see if you can get the tail lights working but something else will fail    do you mean marker lights  make sure you used the correct bulb type  many are dual filament bulbs and will not work right if you used single filament bulbs

Brake lights will not come on. It is not the bulb. The tail lights work.

The tail lights working would not necessarily mean that the brake light bulbs are good. If they are the type that have a double filament (ie: one filament for the tail light and another filament for the brake light ) the brake light filament could be bad and the tail lights still would work. If they are either single filament type bulbs or double filament type, I would check the bulb, fuses, and contact switch on the brake pedal.

Back tail lights won't light up

check the bulbs, theyre probably the double filament bulbs and one can go out but not the other. If the bulbs are ok, check your fuses and tail light relay
