1999 Bentley Arnage Logo
Posted on Mar 29, 2014

I have a 99 bentley Arnarge, the shocks are not working properly. The car bounces constantly and when I had it checked, I was told the hydraullics were pumped all the way up and not adjusting! Any advice before I go to another Bentley dealership?

Hello, the Arnage has two suspension spheres in the boot. These are located next to the fuel tank. These will need to be replaced, as the suspension will be very hard and bouncy. Before you go flying to the dealer and spend loads of money. Try first a specialist or a Citroen dealer. As its the same part and even has a Citroen logo stamped on the part.

If just bouncy like riding in a wheel barrow, gas springs are the most likely fault.

If the rear is jacked up high then also look at the height control valve linkage in case it has become dislodged, damaged, moved. If not check the height control valve.

Shocks

On the hydro suspension system there are spheres which act as shock dampers. These are pumped up by the engine pump and run around 2400psi max.

As the wheels move up and down the 'ram' you would call the shock absorber displaces fluid into and out of the sphere/s. If these spheres are more than 6 years old, they go hard, because the nitrogen gas in them has leaked away. ( Gaseous Physics. They all do it. Nitrogen has a smaller molecual than the rubber trying to contain it.)

This nitrogen gas pushes a thick rubber diaphragm towards the hydraulic fluid acting as a spring. The small orifice the fluid has to pass through into and out of the sphere acts as a damper to the wheels movements up and down. A sensor on the axle/s keeps the pressure in the system at the correct ride hight.

You need new spheres if they have never been replaced.

Suspension soft

I would say you probably need new rear shocks as they take out the spring oscilations.

My back wheel when it hit a pot hole or any other bump in the street it bounce or not enough bounce to it ...the struts are ok an suspension is ok I was told so whats goin on..can u help me

I not sure if I fully understand your question. Are you asking should your car be bouncing more when you hit a bump or pot hole?

Well this is how struts and shocks are suppose to work: Struts and shocks are suppose to assist in providing a smooth ride, when you hit a bump or pot hole the struts and shocks absorb the force so you won't feel the full impact when driving. A good set of struts and shocks will eliminate excessive bouncing when driving or when you come across bumps and other mishaps in the road. So inconclusion if your car is not doing a whole lot of bouncing when you are driving that is a good thing, because that means your struts and shocks are doing their job and that means there is nothing wrong with them.

HOW CAN I STOP ONE OF MY BENTLEY ARNARGE HEADIGHTS MISTING UP?

It is misting up because there is a leak in the housing somewhere. The solution would be to find the leak and sealing it with RTV. This would usually require removing the headlight assembly from the car to inspect it.

Remove the rear covers from the head light unit. Put these cover in the bin. After 2 days the head lights will be ok? I had this problem with my Arnage and it's never happened again. I have had this one now 3 years
