My 95 silverado has a 4l60e trans mission in it with 205,000 most of time it wont go into overdrive, then 1 time it will. i have put new a and b sileniods, change fluid and screen, checked shifting leakage, put new tps on it
Overdrive is the fourth gear.D1,D2,D3,D4 now drive truck at 80 kmh
cruise at steady speed no fuel pedal movement, downshift from D4 to D3 you should feel RPM raise .. after push brake pedal a little you should see RPM raise 300 to 400 rpm.
shift pattern is 1st gear ,second gear,3rd gear and lock up(torque converter clutch). 4th gear with lock up
hope it helps
Testimonial: "thanks Denis, but my 95 c1500 has a 4l60e, it has 5 gears, on colum the gear shift reads 1-2-3-D the D has circle around it it is 4 speed with overdrive automatic transmission between my parents now me we have owed for 19 yrs o thanks but not it..today when drove truck for 5 miles no overdrive then went in, every time it shifts down then up again 1-2-3 shift perfect then goes into drive for only about 5 seconds then to overdrive motor boggs to low rpm it's got to be electrical ], hhheeelllppp"
thanks again Denis, took to few shops put there new computers want work on my trk. One of my friends jumped two of the (not sure what to call it but) hole with paperclip (where they plug computer in) he said it gave a code of 23 said that was tps changed it (new one ) samething he gave up said no slip, no hard shift, shift fine just no overdrive so drive it
Just a thought i wonder if the tow haul switch is bad and keeping it from shifting into OD?

SOURCE: The Trans. don't shift up, I unplug the TPS and it
The first thing to do is have the computer scanned for codes, these codes will tell you what system is not operating correctly.
SOURCE: When trans shifts into overdrive it shifts at high rpms?
No not likely. Is the 3-4 shift rough? What speed are you going when it shifts into 4th? It likely just needs the T.V. cable adjusted.
SOURCE: Have 03 silverado V6 1500 50k miles no shift 2-3
Unless there's other circumstances the shop should have checked the codes first. From there they should have followed a basic diagnostic route such as making sure it has fluid pressure in all valve shift circuits and the correct pressure. But, it's most likely that you need a trans and a long test drive after doing the valves would have gave them a clear direction to go in if the problem is not interrmitant,
If it had lots of miles on the trans fluid befor you changed it that fluids additives broke down long ago and wore out most of the fiber material in your trans,,its a problem with alot of gm makes ,unfortunatly you now need to rebuild at least a portion of the trans
