No trailer Brake Lights right or left side

I checked the plug for the Yukon. I have power. The running lights, marker lights, trailer brakes, right and left turn signals and all other lights work on my trailer except the right and left rear brake lights do not work. When I check the plug with a test light, when the brakes on pushed (truck side), I do not receive power on the left or right pin for the brakes. An RV place told me it could be my Hazard Flasher Relay being the problem. Any other thoughts? I do not know if I should check other fuses, or replace the truck side wiring harness? Any help would be appreciated.

    I rewired the plug and changed a few fuses and got it to work. Thank you for all of your help and input. lane

SOURCE: brake lights/rear turn signals

I had the same problem with my 1999 Yukon. The electric board needed to be replaced. Rust starts to build up and shorts out or blows the bulb. The dealership charged $73.60 for the part and I installed it myself (Saved $30).

SOURCE: no brake/hazard lights,have running/turn signal lights

Suggest you change hazard flasher 'can' first, then go to the hazard switch. I'm betting it's the flasher can.

SOURCE: bottom brake lights and hazard lights do not come on. All other lights work including top brake lights. Fuses and bulbs checked.

Check for power out of brake light switch by brake pedal. Of its faulty , the 3rd brake light will still work. Hope this helps

SOURCE: Both rear turn signal lights flash

I did 15a and electrical for over 30 for chevrolet and seen some pretty weird stuff.To me you still have a ground problem.your idea of checking the brake light switch is a good start.both rear lamps flashing to me means the hazards are shorting across the turn and brake light circuits,because hazards stop flashing when brakes are applied.The brakes light switches in the 90's were really weird because they also incorporated the abs system.Good luck,let me know what happens.Thanks

Hardwire color code 09 4 cyl. Tacoma to RV trailer 7 pin plug

Color for each pin in the plug is stamped along side of each pin. This will get you hooked up. I can tell you that green wire is right turn and brake light, yellow is left turn and brake light, brown is running lights and marker lights, white is ground-frame to frame. This 4 wire plug colors and same on a 7 pin plug. It's universal standard. The other wires are for trailer battery charging from vehicle, emergency braking for dis-connect, and to the control box under dash.

Trailer Wiring Problems?

Hello all,

For those of you that need to wire up a trailer or have to occasionally borrow trailers and look at the wiring plugs with disdain (I mean face it they don't make sense, ground is white, +12vdc is black, etc), this is for you.

Plug Types/Application
7 Way - RV Trailers, Horse and Utility Trailers
6 Way - Horse, Stock and Utility
4 Way - Utility Trailers

Columns are: Color, Function, Mark on the plug.

Seven wire Trailer plugs:

Horse, stock or utility trailers:

White = Ground - 1
Blue = Electric Brakes - 2
Brown = Tail and clearance lights - 3
Black = Battery, aux power - 4
Yellow = Left turn/Brake - 5
Green = Right turn Brake - 6
Orange or Purple (not both) = Auxilliary or Reverse - 7

Recreational Vehicle:
White = Ground - 1
Blue = Electric2_bing.gif Brakes - 2
Green = Tail and clearance lights - 3
Black = Battery, aux power - 4
Red = Left turn/Brake - 5
Brown = Right turn Brake - 6
Yellow = Auxilliary or Reverse - 7

Six wire trailer plugs:

Horse, stock or utility trailers:
White = Ground - GD
Yellow = Left turn/Brake -LT
Green = Right turn Brake -RT
Brown = Tail and clearance lights - TM
Red or Black (not both) = Battery2_bing.gif, aux power - A
Blue = Electric Brakes - S

Recreational Vehicle: (color, use, plug mark)
White = Ground - GD
Brown = Right turn Brake - RT
Green = Tail and clearance lights -TM
Black = Battery, aux power - A
Red = Left turn/Brake - LT
Blue = Electric Brakes - S

Four wire plugs:
White = Ground
Yellow = Left turn/Brake
Green = Right turn Brake
Brown = Tail and clearance lights

Ground should be 10ga.
Others 14 ga

A test light and a 12VDC power source can be handy for trouble shooting.
Best regards
Mike

All trailer lights work on my travel trailer except there are no brake lights to trailer. The issue I can see is there is no power to the brakes at the 3:00 o'clock and 9:00 o'clock pins on my 2004 g

there will be only 1 power wire for the brake lights as they are connected .together. What you are looking at are the indicator lights (1 left wire and 1 right wire)

Had a problem with a right, amber side marker on right side

Usually one of the holes in the marker light where screw goes in, has metal contact where screw meets light, but if not, and they are not push in wire connection type from behind, then just run your white wire up through hole in housing, and bare the end & tighten it up under screw holding light to body. White should be ground, brown should be power.

2005 F250 Trailer lights

Not sure if you know that much about electrical wiring so I will go through it like you don't.
Take the trailer plug out of the female socket at the rear of the car, turn your running lights on, go to the female plug and using a test light check to see which one lights up the test light, that wire will be the running lights wire.
turn the running lights off and turn either your left or right indicator on and check at the plug to see which wire lights the tester, do this for the opposite indicator as well.
Turn the indicator off and get someone to hold their foot on the brake while you test the plug for power.
check the male plug at the rear wire terminals by putting it in the female plug and perform the same test as the female plug, if you have power to all the wires at the rear of the male plug go to the lights at the rear of the trailer and perform the same tests as before.
to get the both rear brake lights to come on you have to run a red wire from the brake light on the live wire side to the light on the opposite side to give it power when you apply the brakes for it to light up.
Turn the ignition on and turn your left or right indicator on again and check the wire for that side, if that is ok do the same for the other side then the running lights, you will have to run another wire off the running light wire to the opposite side of the trailer to give that side power to the lights
ther should be an earth wire from the plug that has to earth the trailer, all the lights also have to be earthed as they will not work if they aren't.
Try that and see how you go, if you do it right they should work for you

2003 ford ranger 7 pin wiring for a trailer all I need is what the colors on the wiring are blue/yellow/green/black/brown/white

White is ground, black is power to trailer battery trickle charge, blue is brakes, green is tail/running lights, red is left turn signal and left brake light, brown is right turn signal and right brake light, yellow is aux power/back up lights. This is the general color coding, there are exceptions, white, black, and blue are pretty much always as listed above, sometimes the others vary. If you find you are having trouble, post any further questions here, I'll be glad to help out. Curt

Trailer Lighting Kit

Do u have a 4,5,6,or 7 way (wire) system? If it's 4 way it allows basic hookup for 3 lighting functions:
GREEN is right turn signal and stop light, YELLOW is left turn signal and stop light, BROWN is license, and side marker lights, WHITE is ground.

5way is same as above, but adds a BLUE wire for brake signal or aux. power. Its used on pop up campers, utility and boat trailers.

6way (rectangle plug) green=right turn signal, yellow=left turn signal, brown=taillight, white=ground, red and blue can be used for brake control or auxilary. Used on small motorcycle trailers, snowmobile trailers, utility trailers.

6way Round Plug, same as above, but blue is electric brakes, and black (sometimes red,) 12v; note:sometimes red/black need to be reversed w/ blue to suit the trailer.

7way adds an additional pin at plug in for 12volt power or back up lights. Whoa! hope that answers your question w/out confusing u. Let me know if u need more info.
