Cooling fans dont engage! 1998 oldsmobile silhouette!

Cooling fans don't engage when a/c is turned on or when temp reaches 200 degrees plus. I jumped fans from battery, and they work. Check all fan relays, and their all good. Both 30 amp fuses are good. So i can only think there is a thermostat on the radiator or on one of the fans that has gone bad. where can i find them or a diagram that shows them and location. Iam just assuming at this point but there has to be a thermostat somewhere to turn the fans on and off. please help thanks! Oh and i also replaced a sensor on the thermostat housing, and it didnt help! Sigh's

Your Problem Can VERY WELL BE with the Temp Sensor, As It Is the First in This Electrucal Circut . it Waits for 210-230 Degree Engine temp and Gives that Sygnal to the ECM then ECM Grounds out the Cooling FAN RELAY To Turn ON the FANS and the Temp Sensor is Usualy THE #1 Culpret Closley in front of the RELAY.
There are 2 Sensors On this Vehicle The One You Replaced and One Located At Trans Side of
Engine Closer to Front of Vehicle At the Head ,Thereis a 2 wire Plug On it and This Sensor Goes to the ECT witch CONTROLS COOLING FAN RELAY. Hope this Helps and if you Need A Diagram For this It Must be Emailed as FixYa Does NOT Support Large Picture Files. My Email Add. Is MY
Screen Name Here on FixYa @aol.com

Ron, I have the same problem with my '98 Silhouette and could use those diagrams for both Temp Sensors (location and shape). Is your aol address still good? I tried contacting you but it failed.

All relays replaced temp sensor at thermostat and bled clean of air. Fixed after two other "mechanics" completely missed the faulty radiator cap. Would spew around gasket then dry once out of coolant. They replaced everything but relays and sensor. I unplugged sensor and fans worked. Live stream data showed fans kicked in at 220F degrees.sensor is located under throttle cable control at intake behind engine hoist loop. Two wire oval plug.

I've been reading alot of people having trouble with the radiator fans on 99 oldsmobile silhouette not working but have found NO solutions. All the gaskets on the motor have been replaced, the thermostat...

Most cars temperatures are at around 225 degrees before the high speed fans turn on. And then it only reduces it to around 210. If your car is too hot, first you will hear the lifters pinging and tapping. Then you may hear some rod knock. After that your car will just shut down. Too late then.

2004 Pontiac Grand AM Cooling motors wont work.

Can you jumper the relay to make the fans run ? The computer sends a ground to the relay to power the fans when the coolant temp reaches 220 degrees or when the ac pressure reaches 200 psi on the high side.

A/c compressor won't engage and the cooling fan not operating

I have the same car. The cooling fan activates at 227F. Only one fan will engage at this temp, the other one[closer to the A/C compressor] won't engage unless the A/C is working. Try charging the system with half a can of refrig. It'll be tough retrofitting to R-134A, the LOW PRESSURE connector is under the air box pointing sideways about an inch from a large bracket. Try and find a 90 degree adapter of some type and go from there.

A/c compressor won't engage and the cooling fan not operating

The cooling fan does not come on until the engine temp reaches 229 degrees. it is controlled by a cooling fan relay. Cheeck for power at the fan motor and check the relay. The A/C. If yuor a/c system is low on freon the low pressure switch on the accumulator will not complete the circuit for the clutch. Check the charge, voltage present at the clutch or the low pressure switch. You can install a jumper in place of the switch to test.
