Inside the top up tank there is a little float, I usually locate it and just work it up and down with a screwdriver, lots of times as the float can get stuck, failing this check the little sender unit under the said tank, but I must stress KEEP AN EYE ON TEMP GUAGE. This is a proper pain as I experience this often but used to it now, once a week when checking water level I just put screwdriver in and bounce the little float. hope this helps

Volvo using coolent

the most obvious cause is the head gasket ,its failing and drawing in the water so no problems with overheating or pressuring the system ,never mind the weekend mechanics who know more with the amount of beer they drink ,its failing as most gaskets will around the 100,000 mile mark regardless of make or model

The thermostat will show what the guage shows. the seal on the coolent bottle can be checked for tightness. so it could be a faulty sensor?

Im receiving a check coolant level on my 2000 cadillac deville, coolant level is fine. is there any way to reset this warning light?

No the light is linked to a sensor. There is a coolent sensor that tells you that the level is low. It sounds like the sensor has gone bad. And the sensor is located in the coolent tank. If it is bad from my understanding you have to replace the whole tank. But take a paper clip with the engine off and disconnect the wire harness from the sensor and jump the wires and see if the light goes off.

My car over heats, but i get no warning lights on my dash. i have coolent and oil, but i still over heat.

Hi,

If there are no dashboard/warning indicators in an overheating situation, then the coolant thermal sensor is faulty and needs replacement.

A few things you can try to reduce overheating:
  • remove altogether the thermostat (not applicable in cold weather);
  • hotwire the radiator fan to be always on when engine is running;
  • check the: radiator hoses, radiator, water pump.
Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.
