Have to remove inner door panel and is usually 2 bolts around 10mm that hold handle in, but the rods must be removed first and these rods are only held in place by a spring steel clip that just flips out off the rod at the handle end.
To remove door panel - look for visible screws under and around the edges and or handles, remove all these. If window is winding type a horse-shoe clip holds the handle on and can be pushed off with a screw-driver if you push the panel away from handle and look behind the handle. Then take a putty knife and or butter knives and insert between door and panel to pop plastic clips from door then lift on panel to remove from window jam. Be careful of wires and plugs after this. Remove plug clips and place panel aside. Remove plastic and sound-proofing if any in the corner near the handle and a 10mm 1/4" drive ratchet to remove bolts on each side of handle. This is a general answer but should work for the Cobalt as well. East Coast Canada Rocks!! :))

Door handle:
It easy ! You need a philips and flat screw driver, and a needle nose pliar. Use flat screw driver and pry out the two or three dust covers for the arm rest screws then use philips and remove the screws. Next use the flat screw driver and pry out the black plastic mirror cover from the inside of the door. Pry out the switch with the flat screw driver and disconnect it. On the side of the door panel just above the striker/loch mechanism is this plastic push pull type of a hold in screw. Use flat screw driver to get it to move a little then pull it out with the needle nose. Depending on which door your doing if you have a map folder in the door there are two more screw to remove on the bottom of the door. Now the inside door handle is tricky it comes out in TWO pieces. Use philips and get the only hold down screw you see out.( you may have to pry out a little screw cover first) Now the inside door handle cover is removed by placeing the flat screw driver on the rear of the outside of the cover top and on the outside rear bottom to release the tangs that are holding it onto the panel.Pry it out lightly you may have to place the screw driver over the top of the door release button and pry that way. Don't loose your cool its a pain but it will fall out. Once its removed unhook the panel.
Next lift the plastic cover and remove the door handle hooks and levers . Basically use common sense this is easy stuff. There may be two screws from inside of door panel that keep handle in place . Then work handle loose from outside and inside . reverse for installation.
This is the same front or rear door. 1. remove rubber insert at the bottom of the arm rest/door handle 2. remove the 2. philip head screws. 3. run hand along bottom edge of door panel to ensure no other securing screws. 4. starting at the top rear edge of the door panel side a large flat screw drive/door panel tool(what ever you have) 5. lift sharply and you will here poping noises fromt the push clips lifting out of the socket. 6. as you work down the rear edge of the door panel you will see the trim around the interior door handle lift away. remove it. 7. the interior door handle will remain on the door. 8. remove the rest of the door panel.
I hope this helps , easier done than said :)
