2004 buick lesabre - speedometer pegged at 30 mph.

Running or not it is pegged at that position. Slight buzz on start and stop noticed after this occurred. All other gauges work fine. So far! Cruise and shift points seem normal with no change to note! The lesabre is a custom model. Any ideas?

The tiny electric motors that move the needles on the cluster are prone to failing. New sets of them are relartively cheap on E-Bay. Takes patience and some skill to change them.

sounds like a computer or circutboard failure. you probably have a short or physical damage somewhere. since it does this when you turn the car on, it's not a physical speedo cable. have someone go over the intrument cluster.

Yes it's on the right side othe transmission just above the passenger side cv axle. You most likley need to send the cluster off and have it checked. Model Electronics in NY.

Speedometer runs faster than actual speed

on my 2000 buick lesabre there is a button 2 inches down from the millage reset button on the console just left of the steering wheel. When depressed this button switches your speedometer from mph to kph. From american to metric. So yes it will be faster that what your going because your set for kph. Just click that button with the ignition key all the way on and your speedometer should revert back to the good old usa mph.

Speedometer does not move at all, this problem just appeared yesterday. i noticed even if i go into the passing gear, it still does nothing. this is a 2004 buick lesabre. onlt 80,000 miles on it.

Hi and welcome to FixYa!

If that's the case then the problem will be on the speed sensor itself. The speed sensor is located on the transmission itself. You will have to remove the connector before removing the speed sensor. By then you can start the replacement. Once replaced you'll be good.

Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa! Have a good one!

It may be that the speedo cable has come loose at 1 end and will need to be tightened back up. Sorry but not sure where ends are attached on your car.
