When i start mycar the service engine stays on until i start driving

If the Service Engine Soon indicator light stays lit after you've started the engine, the On Board Diagnostics system (OBD) has detected a malfunction of the vehicle emissions control system. Contact your authorized dealer as soon as possible.
If indicator light is blinking, an engine misfire may be occurring, which could damage your catalytic converter. Drive in a moderate fashion (avoid heavy acceleration and deceleration), and have your vehicle serviced immediately.*
The Service Engine Soon indicator light illuminates when the ignition is first turned on (prior to engine start) in order to test the bulb, as well as indicate whether the vehicle is ready for Inspection/Maintenance (I/M) testing.
Normally, the Service Engine Soon light will stay on until the engine is cranked, then turn itself off if no malfunctions are present. However, if after 15 seconds this light blinks eight times, it means that the vehicle is not ready for I/M testing.Check this link out Gary.

run fault codes to find which sensor has become faulty and put the engine in limp mode.. Check oil and coolant levels

Check the fluids, oil, antifreeze maybe a low sensor? Unhook the battery to reboot the computer. Just a diagnostic start of elimination.

Service Engine Soon "?If the warning lamp comes on
either continuously or intermittently, this indicates a malfunction in the emissions-related electronic systems."

EML light: "Engine electronics ?Malfunction in the engine electronics. You can continue to drive with reduced engine output or engine speed."

Triangle circled by an arrow: "Automatic Stability Control plus
Traction (ASC+T)/Dynamic Stability Control (DSC)
?Indicator lamp flashes: System active: drive and braking forces are regulated.
The indicator lamp stays lit: ASC+T/DSC switched off with button or defective. In the event of a defect: please have the system inspected at your MINI Dealer."

First, inspect the belts to make sure none failed at high RPM. If one broke, inspect any cable or hoses in the plane of the belt to see if there was any damage (e. g., a ripped wire in the ASC+T/DSC system). Second, get a readout of the engine error code. (If you get indications of a major vacuum leak including rough idle, look for a blown head gasket.) If you get something else, please post the results in a comment so we can go to the next step.

Look for a light that says SECURITY or ANTITHEFT on your dash when this happens. If you see this light, this explains your symptoms. This link will help that situation.

The triangle lights apear on the instrumental cluster or on board computer have many reasons like due of service( oil change. filter change) and if it has an ESC (electronic stability control) is off and when the tiers keep spinning on ice or on sand the triangle keeps on blinking, or weather it has air matic suspension, and the actuaters does not work or the vehicle is too low.

If that is the check engineight, you need to have the computer scanned to find out what is wrong before your engine quits or you do damage to the engine.

{: ) These triangles you saw is for the Stabilitrak (traction control) indicators. Normally these lights should be off after the engine has started, unless you disable it by pressing the stabilitrak button. Sometimes it lights up automatically when driving under certain road conditions, and will turn off later when normal conditions resume. A wrench beside the triangle indicates a fault is detected on thge traction system and it requires servicing.
What you can try, stop the vehicle, turn ignition off for a few seconds to reset the system, and then restart the vehicle. If the lights wont go off, then tghe vehicle really needed to be checked right away.

Call the company that services the vehicle and ask what the problem probably is. Don't try to drive it until you find out what the problem is or you could ruin the engine.

Hi , to reset the service light you will need to insert the key and turn the ignition lights on but do not start the engine. you will see a push button on the lower left side of the instrument panel press and hold this until you have a triangle appear which then turns to the brake warning symbol , release the push button then press and hold the bc button in the indicator arm until reset appears , release and again press and hold the bc button until you have a moving clock symbol appear , release the bc button and wait for the display to change , once this has reset turn off the ignition and the service symbol should have reset . you may want to print these instructions before resetting , regards Mark.
