After changing the battery the radio does not start. Do have the code but the radio never asks for it so unable to enter the code to start up the radio once again.

there is another fuse at the back of the radio. if that fuse is ok check if there is power comeing to the radio if there is u will need a new radio

The main dealer will supply the code usually for a small charge.
Have a look on line first though because some are offered freely .
You will need the model year and chassis number.

Are you sure it is a Nissan audio system. Nissan does not use codes in their radios. You must have an aftermarket radio.

If you don't have the code, you probably will have to pay a dealer to get it for you. My dealer said it was on the back of the radio and he had to remove it to find it. I have no idea if this is true.
As to the other problem of entering the code 3 times, and it now showing "off" instead. Simply put your ignition in the accessory position for approximately one hour. "Code" will magically reappear.
This applies to the 2000 Gallant. My code is 7357 if you wish to try it.

Your radio believes that it has been stolen out of the car since battery power was lost to it (as a result of the car battery going dead). There should be instructions in the user manual on how to reset the radio.
