How much will it cost to repair a leaking head gasket on a 2000 ford focus se?

My car is loud and the check engine lights goes off and on. I took it to a mechanic who said the head gasket is leaking. The issue is that he doesn't repair head gaskets, just immediately replaces the engine. I would like to know how much it will cost to repair the leaking head gasket, as opposed to replacing the whole engine.

Header gaskets are fairly expensive to replace. It depends on the labor rates of the repair facility. I would try to find a local community college that has an automotive degree program. Usually they will charge much less for the fix (to help students learn) than a garage. If that isn't an option I would replace the head gasket and not the whole engine. Of course, if there is other damaged caused by the leaky gasket that is another story. There is a lot of labor involved with replacing a header gasket. I would say anywhere from $500 to $1000 anyway. Hope this helps.

SOURCE: valve cover gasket and grammets

Go buy a valve cover gasket and put it on. Mark and pull plug wires, remove valve cover bolts. Remove old gasket {the gasket has the grommets on it} and replace. No need for anything else.

SOURCE: Head gasket blown. What is approximate cost to

    Considerations
  1. Many internal engine problems, such as a blown head gasket, cracked head or cracked piston, can be repaired without having to replace an entire engine.
  2. Potential
  3. While taking the time to replace an engine may seem labor-intensive and costly, it will add years to a vehicle's life and will save a car owner from the cost of having to buy a new car.
  4. Benefits
  5. Taking a car to a mechanic and replacing an engine with a used engine can cost between $1,000 to $2,000 for parts and labor.
  6. Solution
  7. Car owners interested in replacing their engines with new ones can expect to pay anywhere between $2,000 to $4,000.
  8. Speculation
  9. For those interested in doing the engine replacement themselves, purchasing specialized tools needed for the job is a cost to consider in addition to the price of a replacement engine.

MY 2001 ford escort se has oil in my radiator and water in my oil...No smoke but there is a little steam,A loud knocking is comming from under my valve cover. Please tell me i might not have to rebuild or...

There was a head gasket problem and some water goes to the piston head. It is wise to open the engine and let the machine shop engr. to do the total cost estimate to rebuild it. Cost including the parts and labor of the mechanic who assemble the engine. If the total cost of rebuilt is cheaper then let it be done by the mechanic. Option 2 is to find a second hand engine from surplus dealer and have a cost comparison.

2001 ford focus wagon coolant problem- Pressure test the system to find no leaks but coolant reservoir is low and seems to have a film of oil what could this be

You may be developing a worn head gasket which can allow oil to flow into the engines cooling jacket. If your engine is running rough this is usually a good idication that there is a head gasket leak.

I have a 2000 ford focus SE. I took it to the repair shop and they said that my cylander head and my power steering pump were out. and wanted to charge me 3250.00 to fix them.

It will cost you less to do the work yourself. However if you're not a mechanic I suggest you don't try these repairs as they are lengthy and very involved.
That's, unfortunately, a fair price for these type of repairs. It's almost easier to use that money to make a down payment for a new car.

Eating up oil but no visible leak on the driveway or underneath

Oops! Sounds like your engine block is cracked,or your engine heads are warped, or you need new head gaskets. The cheapest problem is the last one. However it still is not cheap. Most head gasket sets cost at least $100 or more. To see if you need head gaskets, after running the car for about 15 minutes, pull out the oil dipstick and see if you see oil or water bubbles on the stick. If you need head gaskets check ebay for your model, that's likely going to be your cheapest source. Also possibly the engine blocked is cracked internally. That explains the loss of oil AND coolant out the pipe. But this also comes with overheating, so if your car is not overheating then this may not be the problem. First advice: BE REAL CAREFUL! CONSTANTLY STOP TO CHECK AND ADD OIL AND COOLANT until you fix the problem. Another advice, take your car to a reputable repair shop and have the engine pressure tested for leaks to find the source. WARNING: Do not use engine block leak sealers, they mess up a lot of stuff on your engine, especially the radiator heater core.

Rough idle and volume on the radio varies

have you given the car a tune up yet? is the check engine light on? if so, have you had that checked? that car also had a couple of recalls, have you taken it in to have the recalls repaired? I "HAD" a 2000 ford focus se 2.0L. the volume control in the factory radio has the speed control as in the faster you went the higher the volume went, so the miss in the engine might be being sent through the system and it thinks that you want to over come the roadnoise. as far as I can remember it is adjustable.
