The tachometer needle is out of position

The tachometer seems to respond to the engine speed but the needle starts at about the 4pm position on the gauge and tries to move further clockwise as the engine speed increases. Is there a way to reset the needle to its original position? Thanks.

This is a common issue with the 03-06 Trailblazer instrument clusters and is caused by failing stepper motors on the cluster's circuit board. Check out his page for more on how to fix it - Trailblazer tachometer doesn't work

How do i check for RPM signal on the dash with out using a scan tool?

the tachometer works from the pulse generated for the spark in the ECM or in the ignition control module
the meter is extremely unreliable at cranking speed so at best the needle may flicker at anything under 150 rpms cranking speed
no spark can be from
cam/crank position sensor problems
broken timing belt / chain
ignition control module
ECM
immobilizer
run the fault codes to get an idea of the area of failure

2007 3.5 dodge Dakota rpm sensor where is it located to replace

Not sure what you mean by rpm sensor. The signal for the tachometer comes from the PCM and is based on signals from the crankshaft position sensor, located on the right rear of the engine where the transmission bolts to the engine, but if this is bad, there are a lot more problems than the tachometer not working. There are two speed sensors on automatic transmissions, an input speed sensor and an output speed sensor. Both are located on the left side of the transmission, the input speed sensor near the front (just behind the bell shaped portion) and the output speed sensor near the rear. In addition to those there are wheel speed sensors for the ABS, located in each wheel area covered by the ABS.

Tachometer not working fuses good ware dose tachometer get its siginal

From the ECM - engine computer ! Suggest you take this to a ASE certified repair shop or the Chevy dealer an have it diagnosed ! Could be the gauge itself .Looking at fuse's is no good ,there is not a fuse just for the Tachometer .
The engine control module (ECM) creates the engine speed signal. The engine speed is sent to the IPC over a discreet wire from the ECM. The instrument panel cluster (IPC) converts the signal to a tachometer position indicating the engine speed.

The rev counter in my 2000 corolla is reading incorrectly

Macsry2k answer makes the the most trouble shooting sense. Problem is definitely electric. Since the alternator is where the RPM reading comes from, this is the best place to start. Good luck!

2002 nissan sentra SE-R tachometer is sporadic

need some more info is it manual or automatic. diesel or petrol, and engine cc. if auto it can be the signal is not getting to all locations as engine speed goes to auto box first then out of auto box a can go to other devices that need speed signal then to the dash. its the same for manual engines but no signal goes to the auto box control also a bad earth or bad plug on the cam/crank sensor can cause this.

2008 Jeep Commander with 5.8l Hemi problems with instrument panel

Have shop run an OHM test on your transmission sensors -- then have them replaced and rerun the OHM test. -- it's more than likely an input speed sensor that is not working properly and telling the jeep to go into "limp mode" hence your speed isn't changing but it can't read the actual speed.
