Battery disconnect may do the trick, however if you haven't already, go to an Auto Zone or Pep Boys and they can plug in an OBD II or III scanner to quickly narrow down the issue... for free. :)
This "check engine" light can be triggered by something as simple as a leaky fuel tank cap or faulty vacuum line.
Scan with OBD, then work from there. good luck,
