SOURCE: 1993 pontiac grand prix 3.1 liter

the 3.1 had some EGR problems, EGR valve stuck open, blown diaphrams, Plugged passages Im not saying that is all your problems and I believe yours has whats called a linear EGR about $350.00 from the dealer (and that is the only place you ever consider buying such a critical part for the emissions system regardless of the cost)
That car is so antiquated as far as computers go that relying on the codes is nearly pointless! Map code can set because of low engine vacuum which you will have with a poor running engine, Check for 5 volt reference voltage at the TPS and MAP with the key on and engine off if no 5 volt reference I suspect a Computer. Computer Ground is on the Thermostat housing and needs to be clean and secure.
There is a legit test in the GM factory manual called the TAP TEST take the ECM (computer) and slap it with an open hand, if the symptoms change the ECM is bad it's very common in the early-mid 90s for the computers to go bad in one way or another the circuit boards come loose and suffer also from cold solder joints.
Make sure the wires are on the correct plugs and hopefuly you used factory plugs and wires and No split fire or bosch plugs only AC delco
Make sure you have good spark on all 6 cylinders.

SOURCE: Engine running really rough...whine sound when it isn't.

The run rough problem is due a cyl.mis firing,it becaused buy a bad plug, plug wire, coil,or even the ing.module. the servive eng.light flashing is warning you that you have a cyl.misfire that can cause damaget to your catltic converter if you continue to drive it.with may lead to why you think you have a exhaust problem,it may be colgged.

SOURCE: engine missing, particularly in idle, or dies when turning

The intake gaskets leaking would cause the engine to have a misfire. Get a can of Brake Clean and spray in around the intake manifold on the top of the engine while the engine is running. The engine idle will go up or down if there is a leak. Also try swapping the spark plug with another spark plug to see if the misfire moves to another cylinder. If it moves then you have a bad spark plug. I hope this helps.

SOURCE: Idles rough and is hard to start apears to run better after it warms up. Have replaced the ICO, TPS, and the map sensors with no effect.

You can clean the EGR. No promise it will work. I have an idle problem on my `97 Grand Am Se. Shop told me I could clean it and it might solve my problem.
Just remove the EGR with the 2 bolts from the top of the manifold behind the throttle body if you have a 3.4 v6 like I do. Then leave it upside down with throttle body cleaner in it. Fill the EGR level with cleaner and let it soak for at least 30 min or more. Then reinstall.
This will remove any carbon on the inside which plugs the needle from pushing out at highway speeds. Hope this helps. If the problem returns in a week or so then replace with new EGR. New EGR is about $100-200! Cleaning seems to have helped my car did that about 3 weeks ago.
If you have a service engine light on turn the key to the run position on the ignition, pull the fuse to the ECM (batt) and disconnect the wire harness to the EGR. Reinstall it after a 1 min, That will clear all the codes in the ECM and reset everything.
Once you place the ECM fuse back in, start the car. It may stall but let it, DO NOT TOUCH ANY THING. The ECM need to relearn the EGR and engine from all it's sensors like the first time it was started. Just start it up again and it should be like the day it came off the assembly line and will relearn everything.
Good luck and just drive it like you always. If you decide to change the EGR valve, you still need to clear the ECM as mentioned above for the ECM to relearn the new EGR valve. Hope this helps and keep me posted.

SOURCE: 1992 pontiac grand am no acceleration, a rough idle (engine miss)

Does it have the 2.3l Quad 4 engine? If so replace the plastic piece that the coils go into, they go bad and leak spark to the cam towers and then you get a nice one or multiple cylinder misfire.

2005 Ford five hundred sel starts up runs nice and smooth when it warms up starts to have a weird idle like there is a cam loop but never dies drives down the road smooth

How long since a tuneup? Any applicable trouble codes?
The generic info for rough idle on any vehicle is to check for a leak of some kind, fuel--egr--vacuum, something of that nature.

Was overheated now starts ok but after it warms up idles very rough were to start looking? It doesn't leak but it's the rad cap that caused the overheating.

Did it run out of coolant? If so, you have internal engine damage? I'd check cylinder compression.

Also, check proper oil pressure. You can always check the basics, for a rough idle, check for a leak of some kind, egr--fuel--vacuum leak. Any applicable trouble codes?
What is year--make--model, It didn't post for some reason?

Car engine interment rough idle

Sounds like possible vacuum leak. Next time it starts try spraying starting fluid around vacuum hoses, if engine speeds up, there is a vacuum leak at that point where you sprayed. Hope this helps.

Sounds like a vacuum leak. You should be able to hear it at your hoses and \or connections.Around the intake manifold you can spray brake cleaner at the gaps. If the idle changes then your on to something

I have a 2002 Mercury Sable w/ 3.0L DOHC. The Fuel Cap light keeps on, yesterday the engine started idleing rough, today it acts like a stuck throttle until the car is stoped and then it acts like it...

You have a vacuum leak some where. Engine uses vacuum to burn gas vapors in gas tank. This is the EVAP SYSTEM. This system can detect a small leak or large leak. (gas cap light.) But there are also other items on the car that use vacuum to do work. The PCV circuit . This vents the engine's crank case. Also power brakes and some ac/heater controls. Now it sound like a good size vacuum leak if car idle is "high". I would say open the hood and listen. When car first starts idle should be around 1500 rpm or so. If you have a tachometer in car. then as it starts to warm up the idle should start to go down. Then listen for a hiss around the center of engine compartment. the black tube and ribs looking thing is your intake where vacuum ports would start. Check line or hoses to see if cracked or broken. Ford/Mercury like to use hard plastic for lines and become brittle after a while and break.

Rough idle then stalls

Vacume leak or bad idle motor. With the car in park and running with the hood open listen for leaks moving your hand around the different hoses looking for a change in the sounds that you hear. The idel motor also makes the car idel up to 1500 RPM or so right at start-up then idel down, If it doesn;t the idel motor is likly. Check engine light is on when running? Test for codes, Follow code test charts don't skip any steps!.
