I have a noise it sounds like something flapping in the wind almost or like a rock stuck in tire tread. It varies with speed but not with engine RPM. Almost can''t hear it unless your driving along a fence or a underpass where the noise echos back into the car. I jacked up the car to look under it, and inspect the tire tread. No rocks in the tires. Nothing hanging that would be flapping that I see( stuck plastic bag, or a loose plastic panel). Checked the CV boots to make sure they looked in good shape and weren't torn. Car is an 05 Scion tC with about 78K on it. Everything else works great. I first noticed this noise after driving down a loose gravel driveway which made me think of a rock in the tire but that was a couple weeks ago and the noise is still there. Any ideas?
Our XA had been in several times to try to find the noise and no one could figure it out. We also thought it sounded like a rock in tread or like baseball cards strapped to your bike frame to hit the spokes when you were little. I did lots of research yesterday and one guy said to remove wheel cover and see if it stops. It did. Turns out there was a broken clip that holds the wheel cover on. It was bent over and able to catch air and make noise. We snapped it off and replace wheel cover tightly and no more noise. I kind of laughed when I first read the solution and said the same thing---could it be that simple? He also said that sometimes the center decorative "scion" logo that covers the Toyota one in the middle of wheel cover can come loose and do the same thing
Grab ahold of the "Chin" or lip spoiler under the radiator...chances are it broken..."Flapping" at speed...might also be an inner fenderwell thats loose.
