Chrysler p0456 code

I left my lights on, but afterward the car started just fine. Later that day, the check engine light came on, showing errors P1684 and P0456. Are these related to leaving the lights on, or a separated problem?

Possible causes - Missing or loose fuel cap
- Incorrect fuel filler cap used
- Fuel filler cap remains open or fails to close
- Foreign matter caught in fuel filler cap
- Evaporative Emission (EVAP) canister or fuel tank leaks
- Evaporative Emission (EVAP) system hose leaking
- Fuel tank leaking
P0456 Chrysler Description The Evaporative emissions system is design to prevent the escape of fuel vapors from the fuel system. Leaks in the system, ca allow vapors to escape into the atmosphere. The leak detection system tests for EVAP system leaks and blockage. During the self-diagnostics, the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) first checks the Leak Detection Pump (LDP) for electrical and mechanical faults. If the first checks pass, the PCM then uses the LDP to seal the vent valve and pump air into the system to pressurize it. If a leak is present, the PCM will continue pumping the LDP to replace the air that leaks out. The PCM determines the size of the leak based on how fast/long it must pump the LDP as it tries to maintain pressure in the system.

SOURCE: CODES,P0442,P0455,P0456,P1684

P0442, P0455 AND P0456 are all evaporative leak monitor test failures (small, medium and large leaks). These codes appear anytime the integrity of the air space above the fuel or the lines to/from the vapor canister or purge valve. If there is no damage to the canister, check the lines that run under the van from the fuel tank and canister to the purge valve (under the hood). Also, check to make sure that the hoses are not split or disconnected where they connect to the purge valve. The P1684 is abit more confusing. This is not a valid DTC for your vehicle. It's possible the scanner the shop you went to is an OTC scanner that is reporting a false code. It's also possible they wrote it down incorrectly. The closest thing that makes any sense is a P1486 which would indicate a pinched hose in the same monitor system as the other 3 codes. Best of luck!

SOURCE: what are troubleshooting codes P1684 and P0456?

If both codes came at the same time and you didn't take the battery cable off, you need a purge solenoid, $40 near master cylinder. Put 3/4 tank of gas and the light will go out buy the time you get to 1/4 tank.

Engine fault codes: P1684 P0135 P0456

Hi the p1684 means the battery has been disconnected within the last 50 starts, the P0135 is Oxygen O2 Sensor Heater Circuit Malfunction (Bank1, Sensor1), you may have notived an increase in fuel consumption. and the P0456 code means evaporated emissions system -small leak detected the causes could be either A small leak in any of the EVAP hoses or fuel tank hoses, a small leak in the purge valve or vent valve or the EVAP Canister may be leaking
Hope this helps

What are troubleshooting codes P1684 and P0456?

P0456 is a small vacuum leak - see if you can trace down the vac lines for inspection according to the diagram that's on the sticker under the hood (it should be near the end of the hood prop on the covering over the radiator). I just took a picture of my 2002 Chrysler Town & Country but to get it small enough to upload you can't read the detail.

P1684 is an easily trigerred code that is from a diagnostic reader or battery issue - not 100% sure of it's cause but it does not trip the engine light.

2004 grand caravan, P0456 and p1684 codes appeared at same time. P1684 dont seem possible (as discribed in code book), but lights (all) seem to surge or flicker at times. I disconnect batt. and codes...

P1684 You might have a voltage drop for a second, then the system will pick that up and say that you took off the battery connector. The battery may be going out or the alternator. P0456 may come up if you put gas in the car with the car running. The gas cap my not be working or be put on right. Good luck. ps Check to see if all the wires that have to do with the charging system are tight. everything!
