There are more than one sensor used to deploy the air bag none mounted at the air bag. the switch is a sealed tube with a ball inside ,a magnet to hold the ball at one end and a pair of contacts at the other end. on impact the ball moves forward and closes the contacts. Make sure the battery is removed before playing with air bag switches . It is quite costly if the bag is deployed.

SOURCE: find front airbag sensor 2003 Sierra

The front crash sensor is on or near the radiator support under the hood, it is a little square box, one question why do you think it has a problem? it is a mechanical device, a steel ball bearing sitting in an inverted cone, when you crash the ball bearing breaks free of the magnet, that breaks a connection and signals the airbag monitor to fire the airbags, it takes a 5+ MPH impact to set all this in motion, there are side impact sensors as well, the physics of these are a little different, they are measured in G force of the impact, hope all this doesn't bore, one note the fuel that fires the air bag is made by the same folks that make rocket fuel for the solid fuel boosters of the space shuttle.

SOURCE: remove alternator on 03 ford escape

2001 ford escape. I have done this three times:

Loosen lugs, and spindle nut on axle. Jack up vehicle. Remove tire. Remove brake caliper, pads, bracket, and rotor, secure caliper away from work area. Pull abs sensor connector from tire well, disconnect connector. Remove abs wire from tire well and brake bracket. Remove tie rod from spindle assembly. Remove pinch bolt form lower ball joint. remove nuts from strut bolts. To remove the spindle: 1. Separate ball joint and pull strut bolts 2. pull bolts and pull off ball joint. the second way may not work SAFELY on some vehicles. The axle is removed by two nuts on the intermediate shaft bearing. Pull out axle. Remove alternator and bracket.

Here is the tricky part: the alternator comes out through the hole where the axle was. I found that jacking the front of the motor up helps and position the alternator pulley up, two bolt holes out, fight it from there, careful not to stick the studs from the axle bearing into the case. May take a LITTLE prying. Once you get it it will just drop

SOURCE: location of the bank 1 sensor 2 O2 sensor on a 2001 ford escape

B1 means the sensor is located on the same bank of the engine that has the #1 cylinder. B2 is located on the opposite bank.
S1 means the sensor is located BEFORE the catalytic converter
S2 means the sensor is located AFTER the catalytic converter

You didn't say which engine you have, so I've included the diagrams of both 4 cyl and 6 cyl so you can see the banks

I have a ford mondeo 2008 and the air bag light is on I have been told it is B1127 how do I find which bag it is and what can I do to fix it

Your best bet is to take your vehicle to a qualified repair shop ,there is nothing a DIYER can or should try to do for air bag systems. Right away you thing air bag , could be a wiring problem , bad controller , a sensor etc.. People have been killed by air bags deploying , not knowing how test the system .

I need to remove my steering wheel on a 2004 Ford Escape I loosened the nob and the steering wheel comes loose but not all the way off it clicks like it feels like it is hitting something anyone know

If I am not mistaken you have an air bag on that vehicle, if you pinch a wire and short the air bag it will go off, and something you definitely want to avoid. I am leaving you a link to a video showing how to remove the steering wheel from an 06 model.. I am pretty sure they are the same..

B2296 46 Restraint System — Impact Sensor Fault (Passenger Side Second Row Impact Sensor Circuit Fault) GO to Pinpoint Test N.

plaese keep in mind air bag systems on Ford vehicles carry a 5 year 50,000 mile manufacturers warranty...air bags can not only save your life in the event of an accident..it surely can kill you if not properly trained in how to diagnose and repair the system. on a concern that you have, i would strongly encourage you to sek professional assisance in repair..to ensure your vehicles safety integrity.

i pulle up the diagnostice tree on the failure code you submitted, it is 54 steps long and the fix ya web site would not allow for the size of it to be posted

Blinks 2 times pause then blinks 3 times. air bag light

This is air bag code 23, it refers to the safing sensor and/or diagnostic monitor. electrical diagnosis will be required for the circuit providing voltage to the monitor and the sensor to verify the point of failure, vehicle may require a sensor or you may have a corroded wire to or from the the sensor or monitor, I suggest getting the test proceedure and doing the test or have a qualified technician perform the test as air bags can be dangerous(& costly) when improper proceedures are used!

My air bag light on my 2000 Ford Econoline van flashes a 19 code. Does anyone know what that means?

Seems to be a very common problem with Ford. The wiring harness beneath the drivers seat contains the sensors for the airbag system. Go under the drivers seat and secure all the wires and clips. This makes most error lights for the airbags go away. Hope this helps and good luck!

Air Bag Sensor

Yes You can Replace The Sensor Yourself The Question Is Are You Willing To Tear Your Complete Steering Column Appart!
Also Special Tools Required ( Hex Headed Alan Bolts )
The Sensor Is Located On The Belly Side Of The Steering Column Under The Steering Wheel Beside The Ignition Switch
The Average Cost Of A Mecanic Tools And Labor Is Around $250.00
And Believe Me Its Worth It ! If You Don't Believe me Tear It Appart Yourself
Most Airbag Sensors Are Faulty On PreOwned Vehicles Anyway Because They Where Wrecked Prior And The Dealers Don't Want To Have them Fixed With The Crack Downs On The Lemon Laws In Most States.
Alot Of These So Called Make Shift Car lots Sell Em Every Day with Faulty Sensors !.
Anyway....I Would Suggest Taking It To A Authorized Ford Dealership And Have It Fixed At Least You Have A Bill And A Guarantee it deploys in case of a accident !
