Mitsubishi eclipse problems

If your Eclipse has the serpentine belt set up, the problem of the belt failing may be due to a worn belt tensioner, or tensioner pulley or a worn idler pulley. If the tensioner arm fluctuates a great deal when the engine is running, it's probably worn out and it is not providing the approprate tension on the belt.

How to replace the tention idler pulley

using a breaker bar or some other tool w/ 1/2'' drive, insert into idler, there is a square hole, remove belt tension, donot remove belt, but lift belt off say the alternator, it would help if you hang the belt w/ wire or something so as not to let it drop. using a 15mm wrench, remove mounting bolt to idler, remove idler. better to replace the entire ilder w/ pulley, as an assymbly, they wear out like any thing else. when istalling new idler, must be positioned correctly. theres a finger which protrudes out of idler, this must be inserted @ engine sideof idler. reinstall bolt, tighten, reposition belt, using breaker bar 1/2" drive again, remove belt tension, so you can get belt over alternator pulley, release tension , done ! make sure belt is centered, and on properly according to belt rounting. when satisfied w/installation , start engine, check your work, remember to visulize existing idler, etc., etc., before you start this so you can put on the new one on exactly the way the old one was !!!!!!!!!!1

What to do for a siren noise on the front right side under hood?

I am not a big fan of belt dressing ... especially when you are not sure if the problem is a:
  1. dirty belt ... or
  2. dirty pulley ... or
  3. bad bearing on a pulley (idler, tension, A/C, alt, PS)
If you are at all handy I would take the serpentine belt off and check it's condition. How to change the serpinetine belt on 97 saturn sl2 do we have to change...
Which pulley got replaced? the idler (on top) or the tensioner (lower down)? Usually the idler or tensioner go first before an equipment pulley on the alt or A/C or power steering units.

95 Grand Caravan se. Serpentine belt keeps coming off.

When did this first begin to happen? Changed belt or installed different pulley? Chased same problem. Solved it by shimming the idler pulley out so that belt ran in the middle of the pulley. Check the wear marks on the pulleys to see if the belts are running to the outside.

I also need help knowing how to replace the belt tensioner pulley. It looks like you can't get out the bolt because the pulley is real close to the frame, unless the bolt has nuts on both ends, but it doesn't look like it.

I need to install a new serpentine belt on my 95 regal. It says that it is a spring loaded tensioner on the idler sprocket, but cannot find a way to loosen the tension on it. Do I just loosen the nut that...

There should be a feature that looks like a bolt head on the pivot of the spring-loaded idler, which will allow you to move it so that you can put the belt on.

Optionally, you can get a bar on it, push it against the spring so that you can put the belt on till it runs into the bar you're using — far enough to stay on when the bar is removed. Then push on the side of the belt to move it fully onto the idler. (A person to help you can be a real benefit.)

there is a bolt attached to the idler arm, if you get the right size socket and a good wrench, you have to pull the idler arm. it will pull the entire tensioner and the belt will be loose
