I have a 2005 honda odessey. I left the key in the ignition in the on position. The battery is dead. Do I have to recharge or will it recharge over night?

Could be several things.
1. Ba battery - replace (it's located under the left fender - you have to remove the left wheel and the plastic fender insert.
2. Could be a wornout starter solenoid. Replace the starter. The starter is difficult to remove. You have to remove the front catalytic converter - two nuts on the the front exhast pipe flange, 1 bolt from under the car (connects converter to exhast manifold) and 3 nuts from the top. Converter can be difficult to get out; you'll have to push the collant hose up and out of the way. You should test the starter before removing it (you'll have to remove the converter to get to it). Connect a jumper from the battery to the solenoid. If starter turns engine freely, it's not the starter.
3. Could be a short causing the battery to go dead. This can be very difficulot to find. If there are other problems with an electrical devices (radio, ABS, CD player, etc) it's likely that something is shorting.

correct, may be a bad starter, start there. test for power at small wire at rear of starter if theres power when key is held in crank position then replace the starter also make sure battery connectoins are clean and thight, good luck hope this helps.
