Revs up to 1500 rpm and down to 1000 rpm after starting what causes this?
Cars are design to run at a higher idle at start up to warm them up quick. There is a sensor that reads water temperature and tells your car's computer how fast to idle. Your RPMs seem slightly high but not out of the norm. Does idle ever drop to around 600/800 after about a minute? If not, your engine temperature sensor maybe defective.

Removal & Installation
If the hose is stuck, carefully use a pick to break the seal between the radiator hose and the housing. If the hose is deteriorated, replace it with a new one.
Remove the thermostat housing bolts
Pull the water outlet neck away from the housing
Note the installed position of the thermostat, then remove it
Some coolant may leak out of the housing as the seal is broken.
Many thermostat housing's are made out of aluminum alloy. A plastic scraper is very effective and will not harm such metals.
To install
A new gasket must be installed before installation
Install the thermostat with the air bleed valve at the top
Install the thermostat with the jiggle pin facing up. This acts as an air bleed and must be at the top of the thermostat to operate properly.

a vacuum leak will cause a high idle due to he fact more air is entering the engine which the computer will compensate by adding more fuel. also, a faulty fuel pressure regulator will increase fuel pressure delivering more fuel than required.
look for broken or detatched vacuum hoses. check fuel pressure; 30-50psi
