I have changed the temp sensor and the thermostat and still have no result to the gauge working. Any ideas please.
There is a single wire connected to a temp sensor on the right side of the engine (pass side) just under the exhaust manifold. A common problem is the wire rests on manifold and burns or shorts out to manifold which results in loss of temp display. find wire, repair and replace on sensor. I found that crimping on a gator clip and attach it to sensor works just fine. another issue not discussed is the plug on the end of the wire gets loose and although it may be on the sensor its not making a good connection. thus why I use the gator clip to ensure connection. The temp sensor by the thermostat is only for the ECM and has no function with the gauges.
Firstly the temperature sensor does not work the temperature gauge . The function of the sensor is to tell the ECM that the engine is getting past set parameters and that will allow the CPU to engage the relays to set the fan in motion. What you need to check is the temperature sender unit and there is a wire that goes back to the gauge . For a quick check find that wire and disconnect it from the sender . Have a friend turn on the ignition to run and have them watch the gauge . put the wire on the head /block ( dead short ) and the gauge should go to hot straight away. If it does then replace that sender unit.

Replace your temperature sending unit. Actually it does matter if it doesnt work. You wont know if it has overheated until it is too late and you have blown a head gasket.
good luck.
