My dad's 97 TDI blew the key way to the water pump. Didn't mess up the water pump, but now it doesn't want to start. We have checked to see if there are any codes being thrown, and we come up with nothing. So we checked the timing, that's fine too. Take off the injectors to see if the fuel is being delivered, it is. We are at a stand still and it is just a place holder in the drive way. Has anyone ever had this problem before???? I know you shouldn't use ether to start it, but it seems to start and run with the ether, but without it the car just sits there and cranks. HELP PLEASE!!!!
It if fires with ether then the problem is no fuel to the injectors . You say there is fuel to the injectors so that means that if the injectors are electronically controlled then there is no control for the injectors . So that means something like immobiliser not operational, cam/crank position sensor fault . I would suggest that the data link for the scanner is not being connected correctly and that is why there is no reported codes.
First thing to check is turn
your key on and look for a amber light that say check engine. Make sure that
light come on and go out after about 3 to 15 sec with the key in on position. If
you don't have the light on the most likely your car computer do not get power
recheck the fuses and fusible link.
If you have the light on then
listen to the fuel pump running when you turn the car on, it should run for
about 3 sec. and turn off. If you don't hear the sound of the fuel pump then it
would be your fuel pump or relay. obd2 scanner tool
