You may want to check out the ignition switch. The starter and battery should not be considered as even a possibility because the car starts. If the alternator is not producing enough voltage or amperage it could cause a similar problem, but the lights would dim and then go out.

clean battery posts and clamps, remove and clean engine and chassis grounds, also verify the positive alternator wire is clean and tight.
