Brake light isnt working .. when lights are on brake lights come on ... when brakes are applied.. the light is not bright... nor does my back up light illuminate.. but turn signals do work

make sure that you have the correct bulbs installed and cleanup all the sockets with some WD-40. do your hazard lights work correctly? if not then check the fuse for the hazard/stop light. if its not the fuse then it probably means its a bad turn/hazard switch assembly.

2000 GMC jimmy the flasher clicks when not using the turn signals or emergency lights it click for a few min an then stops and so on any ideas?

Could be the multifunction switch problem: http://www.automotix.net/autorepair/recalls/gmc-jimmy/

Summary: GENERAL MOTORS IS RECALLING 5,862 MY 2000-2002 CHEVROLET BLAZER, MY 2000-2001 GMC JIMMY, AND MY 2000 OLDSMOBILE BRAVADA SPORT UTILITY VEHICLES. THE MULTIFUNCTION SWITCH COULD DEVELOP AN OPEN CIRCUIT CONDITION THAT RESULTS IN THE STOP LAMPS AND THE REAR HAZARD LAMPS BECOMING INOPERATIVE. THE CENTER HIGH MOUNTED STOP LAMP AND TURN SIGNAL FUNCTIONS ARE NOT AFFECTED.

My brake lights have stopped working. The high light above the rear window works fine and the rear signal lights are ok, too. I have replaced the bulbs and ckecked the fuse. Could it be the switch on the...

Hello,
The rear turn signals are wired through the Multifunction switch also called the turn signal switch. The Hazard switch is in that switch also and thats the circuitry the brake lights go through. You need to confirm voltage at the White wire off of the brake light switch and if its ok you have a bad multifunction switch.

I hope this helps.

1998 chevy lumina brake lights intermittent.

This is a classic example of turn signal switch failure. On GM vehicles with a multi-function turn signal switch and combination stop/turn/tail lights (all rear lights are behind red colored lenses except for back-up lights) The brake light power is routed through the turn signal switch. This makes it possible for the right rear light to function as a stop light while the left rear turn signal flashes, and vice-versa. When the contacts fail to remain constant the brake lights, and turn signals can become intermittent. The proof that the brake light switch is functioning correctly is that the high center (cyclops) brake light functions properly. Wiring integrity is verified if you can prove that turn signals operate, but that can still be intermittent with this complaint, BUT if you use your hazard switch to turn on all the signals at once, you can verify wiring integrity. This is because the turn signal, and the brake light use the same circuit, and bulb filament in the rear lighting assembly. If any Hazard lights fail to function, check bulbs first, then retest. If all Hazrd light flash correctly and reliably, bulbs, sockets, and wiring have proven integrity, and the turn signal switch is the remaining component in the system which needs to be tested. Unfortunately, this switch requires disassembly of the steering column for service, testing or replacement. If you have never disassembled, and successfully reassembled a GM tilt steering column, I would reccommend professional assistance.

2000 gmc jimmy brake lights

I had the same problem with my 2001. I found it was the multi function switch. Better known as your turn signal switch. I found that the hazard switch portion of it had shorted. replacement is fairly easy, aftermarket part is available, much cheaper than GM.
