Transmission Removal & Installation 1997 ES300

I know it takes about 11-12 hrs of labor to do it but how difficult is swapping out a transmission on a 1997 ES300. Are there any special Lexux-only tools required or any sticking points that anyone knows about. I can turn a wrench and have swapped engines out before so I know the value of asking those who have done it before. Thanks in advance

Well if you took 11 or 12 hours to swap out a transmission you would not be a mechanic for long, I used to get them out in about an hour to hour and a half, depending on how hungry I was. You will have to take the lower tie ball joint loose on the side the transmission comes out with drop the tie rod end remove the brakes on that side swing the a frame out and pull the axle half shaft out on the same side disconnect the shifting mechanism unhook the wire harness unbolt the cooling lines to the radiator remove bolts from transmission for tork converter remove bolts from bell housing (Assuming it's automatic) and disconnect the motor mount and transmission mount and spend some money here to get one of us to help you threw the process as your going to need a lot of information, since you have a computer you can go to http://www.alldatadiy.com and buy the .subscrption, see it took me longer to type this than to have done the job myself, I'm a slow typer.

Do I have to take the motor and trans out as one on a 2001 gmc jimmy

It is recommended, because there is only one mount on the transmission. Removal of the engine IS possible without transmission removal, but support of the transmission is difficult. It is also much more difficult to reinstall the motor and mate it with the transmission with the transmission already in the vehicle.

Driver side door removal of 1997 lexus es 300

Gently don't force anything. 1st check for any visible screws on door trim & undo. remove window winder if not power window you can buy a tool for this. carfully pull the trim out from the bottom of the door & work up. You will probably find it stops near the door handle. There is probably hidden screws behind the inner door handle trim & don't forget arm rests. just be gentle & yu should work it out & not brake anything

Can i swap transmissions

It would be very difficult to do primarily due to the differences in how they bolt to the engine, the driveshaft design and length and the electronic controls. I'd stay with the transmission it came with.

How do i replace a driveshaft for a 1997 lincon cotanental

I searched under 1997 lincoln continental and found this: Driveshaft and U-Joints
REMOVAL & INSTALLATION Town Car and Mark VII-VIII Fig. 1: The bolts retaining the rear driveshaft yoke-to-differential flange require a 12mm, 12 point wrench or socket to loosen them 91197p12.jpg
Fig. 2: Remove the bolts retaining the rear driveshaft yoke-to-differential flange 91197p11.jpg
Fig. 3: Separate the driveshaft from the axle flange and . . . 91197p13.jpg
Fig. 4: . . . disengage the driveshaft from the transmission output shaft 91197p14.jpg
Fig. 5: Insert a plug onto the splines of the transmission output shaft to prevent fluid from leaking out 91197p15.jpg
  1. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  2. Mark the position of the driveshaft yoke on the axle companion flange so they can be reassembled in the same way to maintain balance.
  3. Remove the flange bolts and disconnect the driveshaft from the axle companion flange.
  4. Allow the rear of the driveshaft to drop down slightly.
  5. Pull the driveshaft and slip yoke rearward until the yoke just clears the transmission extension housing seal. Mark the position of the slip yoke in relation to the transmission output shaft, then remove the driveshaft.
  6. Plug the transmission to prevent fluid leakage. To install:
  7. Lubricate the yoke splines with suitable grease.
  8. Remove the plug from the transmission and inspect the extension housing seal; replace if necessary.
  9. Align the slip yoke and output shaft with the marks made at removal and install the yoke into the transmission extension housing. Be careful not to bottom the slip yoke hard against the transmission seal.
  10. Rotate the axle flange, as necessary, to align the marks made during removal.
  11. Install the driveshaft yoke to the axle flange. Install the bolts and tighten to 71–95 ft. lbs. (95–130 Nm).
  12. Lower the vehicle.

1984 volvo 244 auto/standard tranny-engine swap?

Totally forget about changing an automatic car to standard. That would be a very parts & labor intensive switch and is out of the question. If you have the same year and size engine this will be an easy swap. Just remove the donor engine leaving the bell housing and transmission in place in the donor car. Remove the engine from your car leaving the bell housing and transmission in place. Bolt the donor engine to your old bell housing and you are all set. Mark all connections as to not get confused. A digital camera will be of help in taking photos of how things are hooked up.

How do i get the transmission out and put a new one in on a 1996 ford explorer

Disconnect the transmission bar from the differential and pull it out from the transmission. The secure the transmission with a jack (is heavy) remove the cables and wired attached to the transmission. The remove the bolts from the engine and drop it to the ground. Installation is reverse of removal. Is not a difficult job, is just time consuming.

Automatic transmission on my 1997 sl1 gets stuck in 2nd or 3rd gear when car is warm. Is there an electronic shift control I can change to see if this is the problem

The issue is most likely due to a worn transmission valvebody. The problem will get worse over time. It is caused by not changing the transmission fluid often enough.

Only solution is to have the valvebody rebuilt or replace it with a new one. Its not a difficult job, but the removal and installation steps have to be follow precisely.

'01 Trooper tranny replacement time

That transmission is a very difficult transmission to do because the whole transfer case has to be removed. I would estimate approximately 10-12 hrs of labor time.
