I've had this happen in a work truck before. The wheel speed sensor is located in the wheel hub and as you side load the wheel bearing while turning, the sensor pickup on one wheel gets too far away or too close to the trigger gear, looses the input and thinks that the wheel is locked up. The ABS system kicks in and that's the pulsing you're feeling. At your next oil change, ask politely if they can check your wheel bearings for play for free or a nominal fee.on my personal truck, I had a wheel bearing get so worn (I knew it was on its way out) that the trigger gear actually ate into the wheel speed sensor. I took a corner a little hot since I was late coming back to work from lunch and the ABS light came on and the grinding got worse. Changed the hub that night.

2006 Ford f150 xlt supercrew abs light comes on and off periodically mostly when I'm on rough roads, hit a bump or braking at high speeds brakes pulsate ( brake chatter) or feel Spongy at times

high speed and heavy braking will produce a pulsation in the pedal
that is the abs working properly and the pulsations are the brake release and reapplying
intermittent abs light indicates a wire or wheel sensor problem at one of the wheels

2006 audi A6 ESP light problem ESP light comes

A good place to start is the brake light switch.
There are 2 circuits in there: 1 for the brake lights and the other for the car computer (ESP, Engine brake etc...)
If the brake switch has an intermittent fault, the EPS light may come on and the car may run rough until you stop the vehicle and remove the key. It then re-set itself until the next time you are using the brakes and the fault appears again.

2010 Dodge Grand Caravan break light stays on in dash.

Check the level of your brake fluid or your brake pads may be worn down and time to have them checked out.

I have a 2000 Mercedes E430 base sedan. Last week I replaced the brake light switch because it was out and it solved the problem to the point that I can now put my car into gear and drive it, however, as...

Brake light switch problem may cause the ESP / BAS lights to illuminate.

Common symptoms of a bad
Mercedes brake light switch.
  • Car stuck in Park.
  • ABS ESP ETS lights come on.
  • Can not move the shifter from Park to Drive.
  • Brakes Defective Warning on Instrument Cluster
  • Car won't shift gears. Stuck in 2nd gear, limp mode.
  • Brake lights don't work. (Brake light switch can still be defective even if the brake lights work. Checking the brake light operation is not a good test.)
  • ESP, BAS, ABS lights turn on. Car won't shift properly. Stuck in gear.

TEST: To test your new brake light switch: Turn you car off to reset the ABS light. apply the parking brake. and start the car in neutral or park without using the brake. if the problem is the brake light switch... the light will only come on when you press the brake pedal.

If you replaced the brake light switch and the light is still on you should check a few other things such as:

  • Fuses and Relays
  • ABS pump
  • ABS wheel speed sensor
  • Brake Fluid Level
  • Get an advanced scanner to read trouble codes.

NOTE: ** You may need a MBZ scan tool to reset the error code which was stored in the ECU because of the bad brake light switch.

I have a vauxhall meriva and esp light came on. Steering was effected. What is it?

As ESP is a safety feature I would have it looked at by a garage.
ESP is a system that affects several systems in the car braking and steering as well as power, traction and dynamics. This is to stop the car from losing control on a slippery surface or a tight corner and reacts faster than the reaction time of the driver.

Brake pulsating and abs light is on

brake pulsation is caused by warped brake rotors, not sure the ABS light and the pulsation are related, The ABS warning light requires a scanner to be connected and to read the fault code that is stored when the ABS warning light is turned on.

I have a 2004 montana and the brakes feel like they are not working (pulsating) from time to time. The Van stops OK, the best way to describe it is like squeezing and releasing a water hose as water is...

The "pulsating" you refer to is Normal for a vehicle with ABS (Anti-Lock Brake Systems). It keeps the vehicle braking in a straight line and monitors each wheel with a sensor as to how fast it's turning while braking. The "pulsations" you feel is the ABS Computer turning each individual brake on and off to prevent a lock-up or skid. Perhaps if you road test the vehicle and apply your brakes lightly as in coming up on a stop sign in a residential neighborhood, you'll feel what you consider to be, "normal braking." Pulsations usually come at higher speeds and as to how much pressure you're putting on the brake pedal. You're safer than most now knowing that braking, even in snow, rain or gravel, that your vehicle will stop in a straight line instead of sliding to one side or the other.

If unhappy with ABS Braking, you can always remove the fuse to the ABS computer rendering it inoperative, so you have both choices as to what you'd like to do, right here.

I hope this helps,

Brake light comes while braking with no apparent cause

The pulsating sounds like rotors warped from overheating. As far as light goes, may be float or sensor at master cylinder faulty & making light trip.

I had the brake light switch replaced by a local dealer. Cost was $140 and it fixed the problem. Have driven the car for two weeks since and no lights and all systems normal.
