SOURCE: 2000 town and country van back door will not unlock

sounds like the lock is seized, you will have to remove the panel,it's held on with screws and snap plugs, remove all the screws and then gently pull the panel off. you will be able to open the hatch by sliding the lever sideways. the latch and mechanical lock are the same unit. it has a electrical actuator. your dealer or regular tech sould be of great help in this very simple matter.

your door panel can come off and you can access internal door locking mechanism from inside car first inspect to see all rods are hooked into plastic sleeves then make sure lock is disengaged by pulling rod towards rear of van it should then be able to be opened easily if not your locking mechanism is frozen inside of door between a pillar and door it will have to be pushed to open from inside of door panel once you do that door will open if you cant make lock work manually once this is done replace locking mechanism or rods accordingly.

Take a look at end of door where latch is & post where the 2 meet when closed. Look for round metal button/contacts, about 1/2" in diameter. If you look close, they should line up to make contact with each other when door is closed. Take some fine steel wool (preferred) or fine sandpaper and scuff them up until you see metal is clean on both surfaces. Now try it, and let me know what happens.

SOURCE: My passengers side sliding door

Look at the other door and look on the front edge to see where the child safety lock switch and see if that is the problem with the other door. That has happened with mine several times. Someone will play with it leaving it on so it can't be opened.

The sliding door does not function properly. It automatically closes but sometimes it goes back to an open position.

If you put the van in drive before the door slides fully shut, it will open again. I have a dodge van, and it does the same thing. Crazy design!

2007 Chrysler Town and Country Sliding Door Problem

The wire that provides power to your door is split in half. This is caused by normal usage and results in lose of power when the door opens or closes and causes wire to twist which splits the two ends resulting in lose of power in only one location.
You can fix it by following the post by "grimmster" and "lane" on the following web forum (scroll to the middle of the forum to see their solution). This should only cost $10 bucks (need electrical tape; soldering iron and wire from Home Depot) rather than hundreds at the dealer:

The back door latch does not open the door or unlock it 2001 Chr

Replace the latch mechanism. There is a short in the latch. It happened on both of my vans. The latch costs about 90-100 dollars, if memory serves... 3 bolts, a wire connection, and the manual latch bar. Very easy, shouldn't take more than 5 minutes to switch out.
