SOURCE: 1992 Mercedes-Benz Mercedes Benz 400... Problem:

Hello, What you could have is and ignition problem. I have had to replace many distributor caps (2) and rotor buttons (2) on this model to solve this same problem.
I hope this helps.

It could be the engine control module. Try to get a good used module from the junkyard and try your luck. All the best !!

I have replaced my 1993 318isa module two times myself!! GOOD LUCK!

SOURCE: bmw e36 immobilised, iginition lights come on, but

BMW E36 immobilizer Hope the following will help. Had similar problems. The transmitter buttons on keys is for central locking and alarm. Inside the key at the front there is a small electronic/magnetic chip that looks like a block. About 8mm long, 2mm deep and 4mm wide, not connected to any pc board. This is the immobilizer. It must match the receiver that is located behind the ignition switch. If it is loose and too far away from the receiver it won?t deactivate it. If you made a spare key it will switch on electrics but won?t start the car. If you don?t have an immobilizer chip any alarm shop will be able to program a new chip or install a new pair for your keys. There is a way to disable the immobilizer but rather have it fix and protect your car. I read an article somewhere (perhaps bmw e36 blog) of people removing this immobilizer. Good luck

My bmw e36 318is cranck but does not start and when I stop the key it backfire through the exzaust what can the problem be theres spark and theres petrol

There are many different problems that can cause a backfire. Your first step should be to get a scan tool and check for codes (your MIL should almost certainly be on) or verify data sets to narrow down the issue.

I got a bmw e36 1995 3.18is auto when I start the car its normaly works fine after when car get warmer the noise starts and engine is shakes I don't know why sounds like to me is a air pressure ? need help...

Those symptoms sound a lot like a cylinder misfire. To make your life easier (and to verify it is indeed a misfire, have the OBD system scanned by the dealer, reputable shop or auto parts store (AutoZone will sometimes do it for free) to find out which cylinder(s) are having issue.

This issue usually happens when one of the following things occur. Start checking in this order.

1. You have a fouled spark plug, remove and replace
2. You have a bad ignition coil, remove, replace
3. You have a cracked engine block, or leaking head gasket, pressure test each cylinder to determine.
4. There is an issue with some component in the exhaust gas calibrarion (MAF, O2 sensor). A computer diagnostic will tell you which component.

Check compression and timing. Then check sensors(MAF, oil pressure sensor). Don't crank engine too long. Cranking engine may pour a lot of petrol into your engine oil.

Its a 1998 528i bmw that will start but wont stay running also there is a loud kind of backfire noise from one of the cylinders . the engine wont rev up proper even though i keep pressing the throttle...

The fact that you have a backfire noise that you can trace to just one cylinder makes it sound like a spark plug could be loose or broken. Pull out your spark plugs and examine them. On a '98, that eill mean pulling off the plastic cover, then removing the coils (need a 10mm socket, be careful with the ground wires) and then reach down in with a small spark plug socket on a long extension.
Also, look for a massive air leak on the intake. Take apart the air tubes from the air filter up to the throttle body looking for air leaks. You could also have a leak at the intake manifold gasket but you may need help to check for that.

Bmw E36 1995 ,engine noise problem.

ck for excessive play in the electric cooling fan blades - theses usually only come on when the car is hot or ac is used. You can also check this by locating the fan relay(s) and removing them when you hear the noise.

Engine cuts out

BMW CUTS OUT
A few things to check.
  1. Is fuel pump delivering enough fuel.
  2. Is injectors clean. Perhaps dirt in fuel. replace fuel filter
  3. Air leakage at top air intake of manifold at ICV idle control valve. Two hoses inside this housing prone to perishing.
  4. Throttle position sensor faulty.
  5. Mass air flow sensor faulty.
  6. ICV faulty or dirty. comon fault on older e36.
Havent done it yet but ICV is easy to clean according to internet. instruction available at bmw e36 blog. All off above can be tested by yourself according to manual.
