Firing order might be correct but it must start and finish at the right cylinders. Check this by turning the crankshaft until the timing marks are aligned and the timing cylinder is at the top of the compression stroke. The firing order begins from the distributor cap segment the rotor arm is pointing to. Don't forget to observe the direction of distributor rotation.
Those numbers on the cap identify which cylinder is connected to which plug wire and in some cases its also the firing order. Usually the firing order is stamped into the top of the intake manifold someplace. You also need to know which direction the rotor is turning in to make sure you get the correct order. Leave the cap off and bump the started to see which direction the rotor turns in and you can work out the firing order from that.
you should check firing order because sounds like your wires are not in correct firing order . when you change the wires its important to make sure they are placed back in same place fore example on your cap you have numbers 1 to 6 but your firing order can be 235641example only
Firing order is 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2. Move #1 cylinder to where piston is up, and on the compression stroke (TDC). Easiest way to do this is with a compression tester on the #1 cylinder - rotor cap OFF. When you see the pressure build...you're on the compression stroke.
The rotor cap should be at the #1 cylinder firing position...simply re-install the rotor cap at this time - noting which button is #1.
Starting at #1 install the wire for the #1 cylinder onto the rotor cap...the next button (clockwise) on the cap should correlate to #8; the third button on the rotor cap is, cylinder #4..and so on.
work your way around the rotor cap until you have all 8 cylinder wires in place...ignition coil wire in the middle button.
make sure u have the wires in the correct spots, there is a firing order, u need to have them in the right spots or else it wont fire, call ur local parts store and they will give u the firing order
If I am right, the firing order is,1-3-4-2. With the dissy cap removed, have someone turn the engine over so you can see which way the rotor arm goes. Set the engine to TDC and the rotor arm should point to the No1 cylinder at the start of the firing order. If it rotor points away from the No 1 cylinder then slacken the dissy housing and move the diddy until the rotor ppoints to the No1 cylinder. Now pHT lead from the No1 spark plug to the No 1 possition on the dissy cap. The next lead goes on the next available possition on the dissy cap in the way of the rotation of the rotor then to the No3 spark plug carry on the same with 2 and 4 and that should solve your problem unless you have a different firing order.
