The check engine light has been on for a month and I got onto the highway going 55 mph and the light started flashing so I slowed down and got off at the earliest exit I could, made it back home and the following day was going to work and the flashing started to happen at 30 mph instead. The engine felt like it was working much to hard for that speed, idle was incredibly rough and shook the vehicle. I think there is one or more cylinders misfiring but I want to figure out as much as I can before taking it somewhere so I don't get screwed.
I'm guessing you have over 100000 miles , definitely replace all the spark plugs and ignition cables and cap and rotor if your motor is such equipped. If you want a better idea of which cylinders are misfiring, go to your local Checker or Autozone and ask them for code retrieval, codes stored will give you an idea of what is failing. Code po300 is multiple misfire, po301 is cyl #1, po302 is cyl #2 and so forth.

This sounds like a classic fuel system problem. Manually check your 1 & 3 plugs to prove /disprove the code. If they're OK, which I'll bet they are, check the fuel pump. If it tests good then you have a fouled gas tank, I'll bet. Especially if you live in the Northwest. If you let it sit with low fuel, the extra air space lets condensation form, causing rust and moisture in your gas. Usually changing the fuel filter will give you some temporory improvement if this is the problem. If it didn't then it could be your air intake not delivering enough flow to give it the proper fuel/air ratio. When's the last time you changed the air filter?

HI...
THis problem is caused for
Lost of correlation between ACELERATOR PEDAL POSITION
AND THROTTLE ACTUATOR MOTOR.
Because your car has no acelerator cable.
The morer probable is the Trhottle actuator motor come damaged. 90%. 10% the accelerator pedal position.
If you turn of the car it will work OK> for a few time.
But the Service engine soon. will stay on.
Yuo can go to at ANy ADVANCE AUTOPART, AUTOZONE or NAPA AUTOPART. They make a diagnostic free.
If not. I recomend get the car scanned for see exactly why the light come on. and make the right repair procedure.
OK>> I hope this help on your question...
Thank you for use fixya.

It sounds like you may have a problem feeding the fuel to your engine, I had the same problem with my 89 RS. All the 1989 model's fuel systems were recalled. I think you may need a new fuel pump. The fuel pump is located inside the gas tank in the rear of the car right under the rear axle. The fuel pump itself isn't too expensive, but with other small parts such as the electrical harness upgrade and fuel filter and the labor you should be looking somewhere in the $500 range. I hope this helps.

Sounds like either the ignition module and or a coil pack is the culprit. I dont remember what year they changed it but if your is the one where the coil packs/module are located on the back of the motor they are a little tricky to get to. You need to remove dog bone mount and replace with a tool that will pull the motor forward so you can gain easier access...good luck. Hopefully yours are right on the top where they should have been since day one... :-)

It sounds like u got a coil pack going out. Alot of times when your engine is cold or when you arn't putting a load on it the coils won't fail. How ever when the engine reaches operating temperatures and there is load on the coils that is when they are going to break down. my advice would be to get a scanner and see what cylinder the missfire is at then swwap that coil to another cylinder to verify that the coil is defective. If it is purchase another with a new spark plug put it in and let it rip.
