1992 LEXUS LS400 STALLS WHEN HOT & IDLE SURGING

After driving the car for over 1 hour it started to loose power on accell. There was no response at all. Then the vehicle stalled & would not restart. After sitting for a few minutes it started back up with no problem. When I got home I reved up the engine to 3000 rpm's for about 10-15 minutes & then let it idle to let it get heat soaked. After about 2 minutes the idle started to dip to the point of almost stalling & then it would recover. It did this about 5 to 8 times before it stalled out. Went to restart the car & it started right up with no problem, but it started dipping the idle again like before. It went through this about 5 times then it was fine. Checked fault memory, no faults stored. This morning I went to start it and it started right up but now the idle was surging up & down from idle to about 2500 - 3000 rpm's. And has not stopped doing this. I checked fault memory again, no fault stored. Any help will be accepted.

    If the timing jumped why would it have an effect only once the engine is heat soaked?

    i have the same problem only happens on hot day. its not gas problem because it quits instant

    1991 lexus 400 car stalled during a hot day, waited about an hour with hood open and it started. But it would run intermittently, car would need to be started several times. Once I reached a gas station I filled up the gas tank, it stopped stalling and ran normal..

Had same problem on 93 LS400, timing was off one tooth on left camshaft gear. Replaced belt and reset and no more problems. (Spent 1200.00 on repairs I did'nt need)

I have the same issue and have not been able to trace it down.I have checked the ecu,airflow meter,egr,fuel pump it may be in the wiring or a relay although I tried a fuel pump relay.Have you fixed yours yet?

97 eldorado idles and does not run hot, only when driving car runs hot.
May be its low on coolant or radiator hoses clogged or its thermostat issue,its remaining closed or it can be issue with coolant leaking from somewhere.Or cooling fan not running when when engine gets warm.

There are many possibilities for car overheating.

Faulty thermostat clogged radiator/plugged radiator, radiator hose worn out. Coolant running low. Low coolant pressure. Faulty temperate sensor.

I had the same problem with my 1992 LS400. My Lexus mechanic fixed it by replacing the MAF(Mass Air Flow).

This used to drive me crazy when the weather was hot.
