SOURCE: 94 olds hard starts when warm, starts when cold and runs rich

If you can get a fuel pressure gauge, check and see if the pressure is 16 to 24 lbs after the engine has warmed up.
I would connect the pressure gauge when the engine is cold, make sure it does not leak or touch anything hot, place the gauge between the hood and the windshield and drive the vehicle until it is at the temperature you feel it "starts hard". Shut the engine off and try to repeat the no start or hard start and make sure the pressure is correct.
Also, when you shut the engine off, watch the pressure and make sure it holds and does not drop to (0 LBS) of pressure.
One last question, has the fuel filter been changed in the past 30K.
Let me know.
Regards,

SOURCE: MORACHIS 1996 88 OLDSMOBILE STALLS

The problem sounds like the solenoid that locks up the torque converter. This will not set a code or turn on the check engine light. The car will restart each time after it stalls. This will happen when you are comming to a stop or turning a corner. At times, you can start the car in neutral but when you put it in drive or reverse, it will again stall.

This can also happen after you have driven the car and parked it. When you restart the car, it may stall when you try to drive it because the solenoid is still locked from when you pulled into the parking spot.

Try to free it up by driving the car about 32 mph in drive (drive with the square around the D) where the overdrive and lock up torque converter will work. At 32 - 34 mph, pull the shifter down to the next Drive (D without the box around it) and you should feel the bump of the torque converter unlocking. Then put it back into the upper drive location and you will feel it lock up agian. Repeat this about 20 times and see if this does not help. These can start becomming mechanically "Sticky" and cycling them 10 - 30 times can help.

There is also a 6 wire connector on the forward (front of the car) side of the transmission. This connector might be dirty. Clean it with electrical contact cleaner (spray type) and reconnect it to the transmission. This connector is probably not the problem but worth lookign at anyway.

There is also a small port in the valve body of the transmission that if plugged, it can cause this problem. I feel it is most likely a "Sticky" soleniod that locks up the torque converter and makes the car stall just like comming to a stop in a standard transmission car without pushing in the clutch.

Good luck,

Tps has nothing to do with sparks. If you had sparks going to the distrubuter but none coming out, the cap or rotor is not installed correctly.

I need help finding out what engine is in my truck. i have an 86 chevy blazer k5 with the 350 5.7 liter so it says . but the guy i bought it from said it was replaced with a crate motor. my vacuum hoses...

On the chevy small block v8 the numbers will be on the left side of the engine look for a small step right at the head / block mating area. The numbers will be in the form of a ser# get that number and call a good chevy dealer and they can tell what engine you got. But any small block chevy crate engine will be a 350 or a 305. they will act the same as far as tune up and any vacuum hoses to the carb or trans. They interchange of a sort.

Chevy 350 express van 2000 runs great idles rough

If it does not do it in park or neutral, it could be a number of things. One being a sticking Torque Converter Clutch solenoid (TCC). It could be that it needs a simple tune-up. How often does this problem happen?

1996 Chevy Express 1500 w/5.0 bogging only when warm.

The cylinder 7 misfire is likely a symptom of the problem, not the problem itself.

Typically, the catalytic converter has an oxygen sensor in front and behind it. When the vehicle is warm and running in closed loop mode, the upstream oxygen sensor waveform reading should fluctuate. The downstream 02 sensor reading should be fairly steady. Typically the P0420 code triggers the check engine light if the readings of the two sensors are similar. This is indicative of (among other things - such as faulty sensors in the "emissions loop") a converter that is not working as efficiently as it should be.

I do not believe that it is a problem with a valve/head gasket or cam.
