I would to disengage the lift portion of the chair. My mother in law live in senior home and can't have her lift chair because it lift. the lever needs to be removed by removing the screw and removing the lever.
go to the dealer to get the new lever and put it on.

First is there a lever on the side of the back if not did it ever recline? If it did used to recline and you can lift the lever all the way up try to bring the back forward and then see if it will go backwards.
most recline levers can be changed we a little effort most of the time they only have a few screws on the side of the seat I have seen a lot of dodge and jeep seats broke and if that is the case with your you will have to have it wielded or replaced also if you get a used one beware of the car it came out of because of air bag in the seat and type of clushins do to seat
2010 Equinox drivers side won't recline.
Found the cable popped off recline mechanism.
Pulled back the lower seat panel near the recline lever after removing one torque screw located on said panel which is on the back of seat. Works great now. By the way, Freedom Chevrolet in San Antonio, Tx, without diagnosis, wanted to charge my girl friend $860 to replace the whole assembly.
O'reily stocks a new handle that is especially made to replace the handle that broke. It attaches to the broken shaft you have sticking out of your seat. This is a common problem.
I don't remember which knob adjusts that area for the seat but if it's like the one I used to own, much older model, it had a turn knob on the side of the back rest that you had to actually turn to get it to do that recline position. Look at your seat and see if it has a large knob on the side of the back rest and if it does, turn it until the seat reclines. I think it does. but not sure. if it doesn't then look on the side of the seat by the door for a lever there to see if that is the lever to make the seat recline. Vw has more than one knob most of the time. you can also check your owner's manual for seat adjusting and it should tell you something.
