I believe they use a level hole like stick transmissions (on the right side of the trans)

Let vehicle idle for three to five minutes with accessories off. Apply brake Move shift lever through all gear ranges, pausing three seconds in each range. Place shift lever in Park. Important: Vehicle must be kept level on the hoist. Raise vehicle on hoist. Place oil container under fluid level screw. it is near the bottom of the driveshaft Remove the fluid level screw with the engine running at idle. Fluid level should be at the bottom of the fluid check hole. Because the transaxle operates correctly over a range of fluid levels, fluid may or may not drain out of the fluid check hole when the fluid level screw is removed. If fluid drains through the fluid check hole, this transaxle may have been overfilled. When fluid stops draining, the fluid level is correct and the fluid level screw may be installed. If fluid does not drain through the fluid check hole, the transaxle fluid level may be low. Proceed to ADDING TRANSAXLE FLUID. Shut off engine. Adding Transaxle Fluid: With the engine running, add fluid at the vent cap 1 PINT Increments until fluid drains through the fluid check hole. Allow the fluid to finish draining through the fluid check hole. Install fluid level screw. Tighten

Where do I check the transmission fluid

Hi, follow the detailed instruction below on how to check the Transmission fluid on your Chevy Cavalier 2001.
  1. Turn the Cavalier on and put it in neutral. Make sure your hand brake is engaged to keep the car from moving while you work on it. Open your car's hood so that you have access to the engine.
  2. Look for your Cavalier's transmission dipstick. It should stick out from the body of the engine, and be clearly labelled as "transmission fluid." Refer to your Cavalier's owner's manual for a diagram of engine parts if you have trouble locating the dipstick.
  3. Pull the dipstick out and clean it off with a rag. Reinsert the dipstick and pull it out again. Check the end of the dipstick for your reading; the transmission level will be measured on the dipstick by labels like "low," "medium" and "high." If your dipstick has no fluid on it, it means that your Cavalier is almost out of transmission fluid and needs more. A low reading also indicates a need to add more fluid. If the fluid is low, add a bottle of transmission fluid, available for purchase at auto supply shops. Add fluid and repeat this process until your dipstick shows a reading of "high" or "full."

Is there a Transmission oil check dipstick for a 98 Cavalier Z24?

There is not a dipstick. You have to take out a fill plug on the side of the transmission (middle underside of car).

1997 chevy cavalier Z24 2.4l autotrans. fluid level

Hi losflip,
There is a plug located where the right side axle shaft enters the transmission it is above the pan. To check the fluid level of the transmission the engine must be at operating temp and the vehicle must be level. The must be running and the transmission in park, the plug is then removed and if transmission fluid starts dripping/leaking out it is full. If not transmission fluid should be added till fluid starts leaking from the plug hole, then just reinsert the plug and tighten. Generally this is done with the vehicle on a lift in order to access the plug, you might be able to do this if you have enough room to access the plug remember the vehicle must be level.
