84 Mustang check engine light issue

My mustang failed smog test because check engine light was burnt out($60). Took to my mechanic to fix and he says it doesn't have a check engine light. My mechanic got it smogged. Do I have recourse to get my money back from the smog station I originally took it to? Which mechanic is right, engine light or no engine light. Were all vehicles required to have them at the same time?

It has a check engine light but not a MIL light wich is a emmison control light that were put on cars starting in 1979 and up your car is not requiered to have the the new system so your mechanic is right but the smog station only tests it if it is a test station. if you want you can ask for your money back but you won't get it as they don't warrenty that you will pass. The smog station will test and pass and will do a minor adjustment but thats all. they can't afford to fix the cars but the tell you whats wrong and it is up to you to fix it. and get it resmogged. Your mechanic may have filed a waiver after fixing the light with your state which is allowed. so next time take it to your mechanic so he can take care of it instead of the smog shop. Welcome ot big Goverment.

If your 84 mustang is fuel injected, it has a check engine light. If it is carbeurated (like mine) it does not. 85 and up are EFI, 84 was the crossover year.

Remove battery. took it to smog fail because the monitors were not set

If the check engine light was on before you disconnected the battery you will need to address that issue before the monitors will reset. If there was no check engine light driving a combination of city and freeway for a day should reset all monitors

93 mustang dies no apparent reason

Not sure if you fixed your stall issues but....have you looked at the pip signal on your fox mustang? My 1987 mustang gt was doing the same thing it got to the point where the car failed to start. It was the pip sensor located in the distributor. I removed the distributor and took out the pip sensor replaced it with a oem replacement re-timed the car its ran great since. I also went to the boneyard and grabbed a few tfi and installed one on my distributor most mechanics suggest you do this when you replace the pip sensor. Hope this helps someone dealing with this issue on there 87-95 mustang gt. Took me about 45 minutes

MIL/Check Engine Light will not come on during start up to pass smog 2000 Ford Mustang

There should be a 10amp fuse in the fuse box for the instrument panel that powers the light. The light is grounded by the computer.
Have you checked the fuses in the passenger compartment ?

MY 89 Ford Mustang GT did not pass smog because then Check Engine light DOES NOT light up. Would that be a fuse or bulb?

The light is controlled directly by the computer so if your car runs, it isn't a fuse. It just needs a bulb put in it.

My 1989 ford mustang 5.0 GT failed smog because the check engine light does not work. How do I fix that?

If you bought it used someone probably disconnected the hot wire or removed the bulb in an attempt to pass inspection.

02 mustang: 6 cyl -skid light appears and will not go faster than 50-60 mph

a wheel sensor on the side that hit, has had a cable cut or is smashed

not a solution, a suggestion,
a broken or cut cable on the sensor would suggest to the computer that the wheel is locked, no movement, a skid

Jetta failing smog due to non communication with OBD - Suggestions?

the no data error can be contributed to a bad interface cable or the scaqn tool was configured wrong and therfore could not connect to the ecm. I would recommend having a scan done again by a certiefied volkswagon tech chances are the mechanics used the wrong adapter cable or reader card. your smog problem could be that your evap canister is clogged therfore gives a bad reading.unfortunately you have to have a scan done but try an independant small shop that delas exclusively with foreign cars such as porche andd mercedez. the will have the correct scan tool and will be much cheaper than a dealership. your cost should be no more than 50 dollars US ... please rate this. thanks
