Had to remove distributor and now need to adjust timing what should it be set at and what is the step by step procedure to do it.
You will also have to move the oil pump slot some. You can use many things that are long enough to do this. But a # flat screw driver won't reach. You will find the the distributor will not seat until the oil pump is lined up. Everything else Denis said is correct.
Remove spark plug cylinder #1 place cylinder end of compression time. Crankshaft pulley timing mark at 0 degree
remove distributor cap then find on the cap where is the number 1 cylinder
while placing distributor in place place rotor to face cylinder 1 wire
replace cap and wires
start engine and move dist. to the best rpm then with timing light adjust timing
hope it help

Roll the engine around until the compression stroke on number one cylinder (both valves are closed) and stop on top dead centre. The rotor should be pointing to the number one terminal on the distributor. If it is not extract the distributor and replace it with the rotor pointing to number one. That should be it. Hopefully their are no other issues relating to the original breakage so you should make sure the new distributor is spinning normally.
SOURCE: how do i install and set timing on distributor
set the number 1 cylinder to top dead center and theres a mark on the dist. housing looks like an arrow with a 6 on it thats where you want your rotor pointing
