I would check the plug wires and the coil pack if it has one and if it dont check the distributer cap and rotor bug.

You won't do any harm by driving it,just beware of the power loss....depending on whether petrol or diesel,if petrol yes could be ignition pack or bad plug lead. Not sure what the set up is but if you can get a spare plug and put in each lead in turn....rest on engine to earth it and crank over engine to check sparking.

also try cheking the injector nozzles for blockage.

The cylinders are numbered as on the spark pack you changed. You might have done better putting the seafoam in the tank as an injector cleaner. Not sure why you changed so many parts, you seem to know how to get the codes from test connector lead hookup and the blink pattern. You might also want to check the fuel rail pressure and the crank and cam angle sensors. Before replacing the injector, swap the #4 injector with the adjacent one and see it the code moves with the injector or stays put. If the code stays on #4, then check the injector wiring, if it moves clean or replace the injector.

SOURCE: Misfire on cylinder No. 3

try pulling the plug out and putting a very small dab of loctite thread locker on it and see if this stops the problem.

SOURCE: My 2002 forester started misfiring

Hello first of all

I would be glad to give you the best advice as a mechanic for 8 years 3 for bmw and 5 with ford motor company.

That being said your diagnosis is good and you followed the correct troubleshooting guide lines so good job with that. I am not super familiar with subaru but if you have one coil for all cylinders this is most likely not your problem but a good way to check your coil is take the spark plug out of head , then reconnect to spark plug wire lay spark plug near a metal surface and have someone try to start the car look at the color of spark if its blue spark your coil is not the issue if orange spark coil is faulty not firing a hot enough spark to fully ignite gas vapor. '

So with all that some newer cars do have coils with a coil pick up built in this may be faulty to if applicable to your car if so the only way to know is for you to change the coil.

However if the coil does not fix your issue i would strongly lean on a crankshaft position sensor and or a camshaft position sensor as they tell the ecu when to fire spark and in what order to fire it and are more commonly known to be faulty before all else.

The crankshaft position sensor is located either under the harmonic balancer pulley or facing the pully were the belt is not if under pulley you will need to rent from autozone a harmonic balancer pully puller its free just pay and get money back when you return.

camshaft position sensor is normally located were the distributor was located easy to locate if diffident though.

If your coil does not resolve the issue one of these two will.

Please if it helps 4 thumbs and testomnial would be greatful for thanks any ? just ask

2001 Ford Taurus SE keeps throwing an engine misfire code. Started after I had mechanic replace wire set and old plugs with Iridium plugs.

The time factor is merely coincidental. Have your engine checked to find which cylinder is misfiring and change the fuel injector on THAT cylinder. The last digit of the code is the one that needs attention. You've already changed the plugs and wires, so you know already they aren't the problem.

2003 TRACTOR 4X4 WAGON IS MIS FIRING ON CYLINDER TWO

Try to see if you can get view the are where the plugs are firing in the dark. Check for arcing off the plug or wires to the metal engine parts. I fought with a vehicle for days trying to determine a misfire problem on a car that we just put new plugs, wires, and coils on. Turns out the ceramic insulator on one of the BRAND NEW plugs had a hairline crack down the length of the insulator. You could not see if with the naked eye, but you could feel it if you ran your finger over it. Easiest to find if you can run the engine in a dark garage.

Sometimes you can use digital multimeter to check for ignition mis-fire.
With engine idling, touch spark plug wires, where applicable, one at a time and note the reading. You don't take the spark plug wire loose and you don't penetrate the insulation, just touch it. Some of the readings I've seen around .6 or .7 volts, not even a full volt. If you find one or two that are bouncing off zero, then you backtrack those. It's an inductive reading or whatever you want to call it.
Hopefully the misfire code will tell you which cylinder, then you check fuel--spark--compression on that cylinder. If p0300 mis-fire code, multiple cylinder misfires and the system can't determine which cylinder.
You might have a vacuum leak?
The basic for a rough idle, you check for a leak of some kind, fuel--egr--vacuum.

1999 jeep cherokee 6 cylinder engine light

1.Plugs
2. Vacuum leak
3. Injector fault
4. High or low fuel pressure.
Thats the list of things to check.
This is a #3 cylinder misfire.
There is also TSB about #3 injector needing added heat protection. This could definitely be the cause. I start at plugs and go from there.
Hope this helps.
Thank you,

Our 2005 Honda Odyssey had a check engine light / misfire

When a cylinder mis-fires there is a reason. The dealer should have told you that. Most likely you have a fouled out spark plug. Which means you need new spark plugs and maybe wires. All this would be covered in a standard tune up. Once the bad spark plug is replaced, the computer will quit registering a mis-fire. Please give good ratings, they meen a lot to us.... Thank you
