Exhaust emission light came on a couple of days ago, had new plugs fitted 4 days ago. is this likely to be a coincidence as i've seen someone say it could be that the engine is not running efficiently i.e to rich/lean or are there other likely reasons can it still be driven without causing major damage

Yes can be driven with out any worries. Did the same oem plugs go in ? You can have one or more o2's that need to be replaced they dont last forever and should be treated like sparkplugs as a item to be replaced at a certain mileage your service manual might tell you when bmw suggest it. you can put it on a scanner with live data and check the operation of them they each shoul be swicthing above and below 500 rich to lean lean to rich. also live data is a easy way to look at mass air and other sensors . you can also check the cat easy way is use a temp gun check to see with the engine warmed up if there is over a 100 degree diff between in and out. you can have it hooked up to a gas ana and they can check hc co this will tell a good mechanic alot.

Nissan urvan 1988 idles perfectly, when drive or reverse is selected, the van stops

When you shift out of park, the emission system comes into play. I have seen this happen from bad grounding of the computer that controls the emissions system.

BMW z3 2000 model . How do I cancel the exhaust emission light after replacing a torn intake hose.

You can disconnect the battery for about 30 minutes to an hour. This will sometimes clear the fault codes. Or you can have someone with a obd code decoder plug into your cars obd computer and clear the codes. Some auto parts stores will do it for free.

2004 Malibu panel shows check gas cap

Check for applicable trouble codes, see if anything related to evap system? Your emissions system probably pulls a small vacuum on the gas tank and evap system to check for leaks, If it doesn't pass the test, you will get an evap code or gas cap lite? The place that replaced exhaust system can they check for trouble codes? Anything?
To check for codes, yourself, at the least, you need an obd 2 code reader.
I don't know if exhaust repair caused a problem or just coincidence?

2008 Implala seems to use a lot of gasoline

1. Change air filter
2. If you O2 sensors are bad or other emission sensor. You should be getting a check engine light if these are not working properly.
3. If you are sensing a loss of power, you could have a restriction in your exhaust system. I have seen catalytic converters plugged and mice plugging the exhaust. This causes the vehicle to lose a lot of power, if this is the case just have someone rev the engine while you feel the exhaust flow out of the tailpipe.

I just had my oil changed and put 4 new tires on my1999 Buick Regal at Walmart, my service engine light was not on before they took care of these services, but is directly after. I went to Advance Auto and...

P0440 Evaporative Emission Control System Malfunction, could be just a coincidence, I have seen it happen, and the mechanic always get the blame, if the oil plug fell out, then I would blame them. It could just be a hose off or something minor that was overlooked, like the gas cap not tight enough. Look up the code here and see what it says, Hope this helps.

I have a BMW Z4 2003 2.5 with the exhaust emission

The Exhaust Emission Light can come on if the car is driven slowly over short distances. It will not happen on cars driven at speed. A short trip of ten miles at over 3000 revs should reset the warning light, although it may not go out for a couple of days after you have tried it . Hope this helps and saves a bill at the local dealer. JK

Lambda probe fault possibly

I bought a 2000 polo 1.4 yesterday after having an MOT. The warning lamp came on today but the car is running fine. Whether its the Lambda sensor or just the light itself is a common fault, I think garages turn off the lights to get it through the MOT then they come on again in a day or two!
