The car's battery died, so I replaced it. The connection on the positive terminal was really loose and would come undone every now and then, so I would just reconnect it and start the car back up. The last time I tried this, the car just clicked when I turned the key, and smoke came up through the dash. Is my wiring harness blown or is it a simpler, easier fix?

turn head light on and try to start car if they dim way down replace battery or connect a volt meter to bat check voltage while cranking. it must be 12 volts or higher.

I would have all the grounds checked. Sounds like it is not grounding properly. This will in turn not allow the battery to charge correctly and will make other electrical devices to operate incorrectly. For example the body ground if not good it will try to find another ground IE the shift cable. This is not designed to maintain a connection of amperage and will allow battery to die. Also will cause problem with cable and could fatigue it enough to break. Just check for good grounds on motor and body. Hope this helps. Good Luck.

Take your car to your local parts store and have them load test the battery, this will be a pass or fail test
If the battery passes the load test. Replace ground wire on battery all the way to the engine.
We believe the the Ground wire has corrosion in the wire or over time now has too much resistance to get the power to the starter.
Hope the tip helps.

The connectors for towing wire harnesses on foresters are generally on the passenger side, below the rear taillight inside the cargo space. some require pulling up the foam block that is between the spare tire compartment and the taillight. Check where you replace the tailights from inside the car, if there isn't a matching connector hanging out there, check around the spare tire compartment, see if you can remove the carpeted foam block next to the compartment and find the plug under there.

hi sounds like you have a loose terminal on the battery try tightening them up really tight and see if that helps. if not look for a loose or partly broken wire as that may cause it too. The only other thing it can be is starter motor on its way out, check the wires are tight on it, if they are it may need tested by an auto electrician or replaced
